Howdy all...My local fly guy told me the there is a new way of nymphing He calls it the DARK SIDE Rumor has it the folks are trying/using 30-40 feet of monofiliment at the end of the fly line in lue of a butt section/leader/tippet. Has anyone tried this method My friend said this is killin' em on Putah! What's your take on the DARK SIDE? Thanks. Thom
someone gave me a book titled "Some guys catch all the fish". The whole book was basically about using an all mono rig to catch trout. When flows have been to high to wade I've used a modified version with great success. Using a spinning rod (I'll catch hell for this I'm sure) I use a small clear plastic float with a neon bead and about 12'-16' feet of leader with just enough split shot to get my fly about 8" off the bottom. You'll catch lots of moss but plenty of fish as well when the spring flows makr larger streams unsafe for wading. I've never tried this on slower water though.
This set up sounds a little odd. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, but it is definitely not your normal fly fishing. It seems like you wouldn't be able to cast or control your line. I guess it would work for trolling in a float tube or pontoon boat. With this rig, you might as well fish with a spinning rod.
