So last week I was able to sneak away for a little fishing. What I didn't realize was I was going to come home a week later with one less friend. My old girl, Brown and a little banged up would not be making another trip for the rest of her life. It's crazy to think how many trips and fish we had seen together. I just can't believe it's over. She made it through a lot of tough years and was always a champ. There may never be another like her......here's to you old sage...
No wonder look at the size fish you made her take on!!! She most probably ran away in fear of such repeated punishment!! One thing about being useless like me ...I won't have to worry about old Green running away!!
Seriously though don't know what i would feel like if I lost mine hope you find an equally pleasing replacement!!

The ironic thing was I was just getting ready to retire her. Bring her on every trip like a labrador that can't stay home. Use her for dries only. Get a newer 5 wt and have that as backup. I know Sage may send me a new rod but it ain't the same. Won't have the label partially scrached off....won't be a true "MEDIUM-fast" rod. That's okay because this really motivates me to start wrapping rods again. Build rods just like I build flies, crappy but workable.
Myself and my family are in mourning today and out of respect are wearing all black! Just a reminder that my guiding service also provides what we call "Broken Companion Counciling" our rates are nogotiable. Bono
I think it looks more wall worthy the way it turned out. Â Put it up with the photo of the fish that finished her. Â It doesn't get any better that that.
Thanks for all your support. I could not have made it through these tough times without you guys.Haven't heard from you in awhile Mike. I am hoping that Santa is going to bring me some rod building tools. A wrapping station and rod spinner for finishing.Â
Sorry I am late with my condolences! It is always sad to say good by to a treasured friend.  But GEEZ, look at that final effort! At least she didn't go out on some 9", planter, dink.
A fitting end to a noble and trusted companion!
A new chapter waits to be written! Soon enough your new #5 will get you to "fish 'on"!
Thank you for sharing!
