Hey I'm planning on taking a fishing trip on 09/18-09/21. Any suggestions for a place with good trout fishing during that time. California only. Thanks.
Unless you go to the east side, I would think about going somewhere around tahoe. There are tons of streams and lakes in the vicinity, so you can have a variety of fishing opportunities, as opposed to just going to one river for three days. Plus, you will find that within a thiry mile radius you can catch brookies, cuts, rainbows, and browns.

I agree with Drifter that the Tahoe region is always a safe bet because of its diversity.
Another option is the Upper Sac. Base yourself out of Dunsmuir, Mt. Shasta City, or one of the campgrounds. There are 30 or so miles of river to cover. You'll find fish somewhere in there.
I guess I didn't realize that your trip is planned for mid/late september. The "egg bite" should be happening on most valley rivers by then, you could hit the Yuba river one day, the feather the next, and if you have a need for some dry fly activity you could shoot up to the North Fork of the Yuba for the third day---doubtfull, but you could hit the october caddis hatch on the NFY, as early as mid sept, but if its not happening, there is pretty much always dry-fly fishing opportunity on the NFY in the fall.
