You're correct. now for further trivia, what was the original name for Creedence and what Bay Area town are they from?

You guys are just too good!  Frankly, I didn't think anyone would know the answers.  I've been fishing the creek for over 20 years and had never heard about Creedence Clearwater and Putah Creek until a friend of mine mentioned it to me a couple of days ago.

He wrote the song because as a boy the guy went camping at putah creek and was inspired by it.

I lived in Winters from junior high until I was 20 or so and I learned about the Creedence song Green River pretty much as soon as I moved there.  I thought everybody knew.

Yeah, that's one of the first things I learned when I looked up Putah Creek on the internet.

OK, no one got the bonus questions.  Creedence Clearwater was from EL Cerrito.  The members all attended El Cerrito High, where the band began it's musical career known as The Gollywogs!!!!  True story.  They recorded at Fantasy Records on 5th Street in Berkeley.

Further trivia. The word Putah is pronounced pootah, not pewtah and is of Indian origin, not Spanish,  meaning "grassy creek", not "whore"
