Took the camera into the river to see what I could see last weekend, as most people have reported there are far more small mouth bass than trout. However, there were still a good number of trout in the system. I watch a number of fish actively feeding on items in the water column that looked literally invisible. As we say at home, the fish were feeding on "noseeum's". After swimming through the area I set up the rod and picked up a few of the fish that I had previously scouted. Its cheating but it was very enjoyable!

Denis
The upload video quality is crappy but I blame youtube for that.

That's awesome Denis. I have been ocean diving for 5 or so years and I have really been wanting to check out river diving recently. Water clarity is really good in your footage. I know Yukon Mike does some diving out at Putah sometimes....
Thanks guys for all the comments. The area that this footage was taken is just above Yankee Jim's Bridge on Yankee Jims Road. The road is a turn off before you get to Colfax while heading North on 80. The biggest problem with the area is that it gets a lot of beer swilling trash dumping floating folk that sit in the best deepest pools but if you walk a short distance in either direction you can get away from all that. Alternatively you can get there early in the morning or late in the evening and there is nobody about.
Next time I'm up there I hope to get a bit more stable footage of some of the larger fish but it's kinda difficult when you are holding onto rounded boulders with one had, filming with the other and trying not to get swept down river. Fun times!
I was also testing the camera for its waterproofness (if that is a word) so I didn't stay in the river long. The camera (belongs to work) is a simple water resistant to 10-15 feet point and shoot number, it takes terrible still images but the video footage seems to be decent quality. @ Packrat, my sister uses one of those GoPro (not HD) cameras on her surfboard and it works great, she has never had any problem with it and it takes nice footage.
My next underwater filming port of call is going to be on the John Muir trail for 8days, unfortunately the melt water rivers/lakes are going to be bloody freezing so the snippets of video are going to be very short. However, I hope to film goldens, bows, brooks and anything else that might be moving around underwater. I will let you know how it goes.
Regards,
Denis

Really enjoyed the footage. My inner 12 year old is having a small farm animal right now!!!! Kind of having a Mr. Limpett moment! Thanks for sharing!

That's an awesome vid. I just got back from the big island and my little waterproof cam was rolling the whole time. Now I'm wanting to take it out the the rivers and get some footage like yours.
