Survived my annual trip to fish the mammoth area. Fished alot of water from crowley to bridgeport. Fishing was really good. No huge fish to hand but the shear numbers of quality trout made for a great trip. Had a partner in crime this time, Whippersnapper. I think he even might have caught a trout or two.

I expect a full report at the Fundraiser tomorrow, including Bombay consumption!

Sounds like a great trip Shaun. Which location was the hottest spot? Did you fish Rush Creek or the East Walker?

I'm heading out next week for my McCloud/Upper Sac trip, can't wait!

That trip was something else. Upper Owens easily the hottest spot, but I was surprised by the size of the fish on McGee. Rich, we fished Rush and did pretty good. I caught around 15 or 20 there along with a beefy 14 incher. I loved catching 10-12 inch brown in those little side channels. I tried to fish it on the way home today, but the flows were raging. Has anyone ever been attacked by those little black birds with the red wings???

Rich, Each river had its own charm. My favorite was the upper owens, It was redhot ! McGee creek was great due to big fish in little water, The most scenic place was green creek and the green creek ponds. The only problem with green is falling through decayed beaver dams, One step and you can be chest deep in a hellish tangle.  Rush was fun but being a tailwater the flows did not cooperate, But still worked out a good day there. We did not get to the east walker this trip. One peice of advice for anyone going to the sierras this summer is bring the strongest bugspray you can get, Seems to be an especially bad year I assume due to all the water. Each morning I had to put on 40% deet lotion, 40% deet spray, Then on the water I needed 99% max deet several times, its the only thing that will stop em ! Check out the caddis in the pic ! there were millions of them ! I found some fly tying material on a fence !

Shaun, an unfortunate welcome back! I'm still coming down off my east side high, too...

Oh, not sure if you heard that your "old" favorite river has been extremely good the last two weeks with a tube!!!  And, the other one for fast action brookies is still about two plus weeks off.  Still slayed them though Sunday on the way home!  The snowmelt has dramatically changed some of the holes, blowing out older fallen trees and adding new ones.  Figure you've been out of the loop with your extended trip...whisper.gif

Thanks Jeff, I was curious how the that little brookie river was coming along. It usually seems to be a late one to come into shape. Did you see the middle fork up there ? Raging pretty good.
