In the last few days, from 7:30 PM til dark, there has been some electric dry fly fishing. I've been a few times and was reminded of nights on the upper sac or mccloud rivers in Nor Cal south of Shasta.
Only issue has been size of the fish. These are mostly 9-12 inchers, but there is nothing more exciting than seeing a fish rise, casting above it, and being rewarded with a subtle take or splashy rise.
Keeps the juices flowing.
fish have been keying on size 20-22 sparkle duns, imitating grey/green baetis (mayflies).
Seen a few larger fish rising, but none have been fooled by me, and those fish have been few and far between.
There are 2 really good spots down @ #5 you can pick off little guys with drys durning summer. You have to wait till the very end of the day but its good fun with light rod...Three other spots @#5 , they are less willing to eat and a bit hard to fish with trees and lack of access... Im on my way to Idaho to fish drys the size of giant indicator...No size 20 for me....
Yeah, knocking the little ones at 5 is fun - and you don't have to get your tube in the water. But the tube has been great - alot easier fishing in many ways.
