Yuba: CROSSING ABOVE THE HWY 20 BRIDGE
Permalink

Hey all! I'm heading back to the yuba next week. I was wondering where it's safe to cross above the bridge considering the current flows. Haven't done it yet to be honest. Just don't want to go swimming.

Thx
Brett

It's currently flowing at 2200 CFS, that's pretty high to try and wade across river, above the bridge.  The highest I like to even consider doing it at is 1500, and for me that's pushing it.  I'm sure others have crossed it at higher flows, but I wouldn't recommend it at 2200.

Thanks a lot Richardbleh!!! LOL!!!

I have been reading the board for the past year now and have been out on the Yuba, Carson, Putah etc. and I would love to join you on some of the outings! Maybe at some point, but the demanding job and kids are making it very difficult.

I would just like to know where above and below the bridge are safe places to cross for my dad, who is getting older, given cooperative flows.

I'm looking forward to meeting you guys and participating when time finally allows!

Thanks,
Brett

Years ago I had a buddy of mine cross it while around 4,800.  That was at the old parking lot about 1/4-1/2 mile above the bridge.  Yes he got wet, yes he lived and no he wont try it again.

His vehicle was parked on the far side and he didn't want to walk all the way to the bridge to cross.  Flows pushed  him a hundred yards or so downstream before he finally made it out.

How tight can you get your wading belt?evileye

Hey Richard (Rg Loft)!

Of coarse I saw your humor! That's something I would say! LOL. Anyway, I'm hoping to have a schedule change as well in the next few months or near future. I would love to join you folks on some outings. I will look you up as soon as I can to start exploring possibilities.
