Went back out to look for stripers... Don't know where they were. Caught a few funny looking trout? Silver trout I think. They fight much better than brownies and rainbows.
All credit should go to Leicafish Gary he had the boat and patience to show me how to cast a shooting head! Shad fishing is awesome. I can't wait until I get a hookup with a big striper. Working on trying to get a jet sled or at least a sled of some kind.

If you had a jet sled, you could launch on the Feather at Marysville and go up the Yuba to Daguerre Point Dam. Hardly anyone fishes that stretch. It has some great trout fishing year round. I usually hitch a ride with a buddy who has a 16 foot sled with a 115 hp outboard jet.
Shad season is awesome on the Lower Yuba. You don't have to deal with crowds due to the limited access. On my worst day up there, I counted 8 boats. Spread out over several miles of river, there is plenty of river for everyone. Plus if you get tired of shad, you can start trout fishing.
You can wade or swing flies off of the boat. The flows will dictate that. The minimum flow to navigate a sled up the river is around 1000 cfs at Marysville. I feel more comfortable with flows around 1200 cfs. The you can get flow data from the CDEC website.
If you want big trout, below the weir is where it is at. Not only from personal experience, but roger bloom also said if you want to get a mid to upper 20" trout, below the weir is where it is at. Even though it doesnt have as many fish in that section as up top. The chances of a big one are definitely there. Swing slump busters the usual colors as well as steelhead colors work the best.

Looks fun. Shad should be showing up here on the Russian soon. Otter you gotta bring that shooting head up here in January and mine some silver with me.
