A couple of months ago, I sent in a postcard and entered the lottery for an opportunity to fish on the UC property at the Lower Yuba. I somehow got all 4 days I asked for on this great opportunity. April 18th was my first day to enjoy on the property.
Word was that fishing had slowed down on the river and this was the case. The water had a slight tinge to it that looked great however. The weather was nice, it hit 84 degrees. There were some great hatches during the day as well. PMD's, Golden Stones, March Browns and Caddis all came off. There was only a bit of surface activity. I worked my tail off, hiked about 3 miles up and down the river and landed 4 fish in 10 hours of hard fishing. One was a hot 12" fish that was a lot of fun, and a couple of larger fish at 17" and 19 1/2". They took a Rubberleg, a Stonefly and Green Fox Pupah.
All in all, it was a beautiful day on the river that required a lot of work. Most of the people on the outing were skunked, quite a change from the fishing of a couple of weeks ago.
Here are a couple of pics

For me, if I skunk 3 in a row.. im bound for a big outing the next time I go. haha. So far... 2 skunks this week at the forebay/american for a few hours.
Way to go Bob, fishing has been very tough out there, and 4 fish right now is really good for the fishing conditions. Everyone that i have talked to get a big goose egg. Way to put in the work, that always pays off.
funny how some higher flows move these fish around a great deal. I have noticed the same thing with my last 2 outtings with these higher flows. The fish are not in the usual holding spots, but have moved up about 20-30yds from those spots, and its been tuff to get them to take a fly. But hey thats fishing.

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
Nice job Bob. Hey I was just on the Brodin net website and if you send them a sweet pic like that of a fish still in the net like you have there they may put it in their photo gallery section. Kind of a cool concept.
