Yikes, I was up there on Saturday, I bet the lion has been feasting on the turkeys, they were all over the place.
How did you do on Saturday? I only saw two fish all day and didn't catch anything. I tried many different things at many different locations. Maybe that's why the lion didn't eat me, he could smell the skunk....
Water was quite clear, not many people out. Some midges coming off the water, an early afternoon PMD hatch, I may have seen a couple risers but they were just too far away to be sure I wasn't seeing things.
i was fishing Saturday april third at 4 o clock and saw a mountain crossing the creek downstream of me. keep your eyes pealed
Hopefully a few poachers will be "cited" as well !!! LOL ...anyway the poison oak and snakes are out too so watch for those too!!!

The mountain lion around 2, I haven't seen her but she has a cub, I saw some tracks a few weeks ago. Nothing to worry about tho. When they see people 99.9% of the time they get the heck out of there. 0.01% of the time they feel like a human snack. Those are some good odds. If a lion attacks you, its just mother natures way of saying its your time to go..
I said that I was looking forward to coming up there and fishing but now you tell me that there are mountain lions in the neighborhood...and snakes too!!! Is this just fear mongering to keep tourists away?? hahaha!!
On a more searious note though, I am deathly terrified of snakes. What kind of snakes would one come across up there?? Rattlers?? Copperheads??
Travis the only posionous snake in california are rattlesnakes. Theres lots of kingsnakes around putah. I would consider it a privelge to see a mountain lion in the wild, From a distance of course. Theres massive poison oak all over putah now. I got it on my hand right now from a trip thursday. I guess if your going to fish much you just have to accept it.
Rattlesnakes will be coming out in the next few weeks.
Hey Guys, if you saw any poachers, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you report this to CAL-Tip. This is one of the major vehicles that gets Wardens rolling to areas of necessary law/ code enforcement. You can do this online at the CAl-Tip site or throught the DF&G website.

tango Thank you for posting the sighting of the mountain lion as I like to take rusty my dog fishing when I go but I have wondered about lions at the creek preying on my dog I don;t think I would have much luck stopping a lion after it got its teeth into him thanks for the heads up sorry rusty no more putah for you!
In addition to all the turkey I saw another animal quite clearly near access 2, I'm pretty sure it was a mink. Didn't quite have the otter face and the tail was a little bushier, overall the animal was brownish black in color and it's fur was totally dry as it walked along the river bank. It was about the size of a large cat, though a little longer and with short legs. The tail was brown but with more of a blackish tuft at the end. Definitely not a beaver, and I really don't think it was an otter, I've seen plenty of those at different places.
Theres mink along the creek. A few years ago I came across a guy at access 5 that showed me a pic. of two minks, One was in the mouth of a large bobcat about to become dinner.
Just to continue on with the topic of local resident, I saw some very fresh Mt. Lion tracks today a little bit before access 3 in the Winters direction. They really are some big paw prints!!
Apart from that I only saw one fish and didn't get bumped by anything. Its fairly tough fishing at the moment but its great to be out on the water. When I got between access three and two I thought someone was throwing rocks at me until I spotted this little guy.
Regards,
Denis

Fly fishing is so enjoyable, it should be done in bed.
Cool pics. One of the most efficient killers on the creek. Ever see a fish acting like it's hooked but it's not. Tail dancing and rolling like a steelhead. Chances are it's running for it's life from one of those bad boys.
That's funny Nic, yeah I should have paid more attention to that broad flat tail. Let me rephrase that. If you saw the actions I described earlier chances are an OTTER was chasing it. Posssibly in a fishcat.
