Why don't you like that rod anymore? I already own one myself. That rod got completely trashed on this forum a year ago when it went on sale. Here let me do some advertising for you...

Hi EZ, Most shops were clearancing the FLi by 30% when it was discontinued. You may have to discount it more because it is used. Check what the going rate is on eBay. Or you can check with a local shop if it has a consignment deal.
As for what's good, you can get a lot of opinions. Check out a local fly shop and see what it has to offer.
Ez, You might want to go with a 10 foot 5 weight. The extra foot really helps keep the line off the water while indicator nymphing ( easier mending and flipping the rig back upstream), and while float tubing. There are several options that come to mind from the top of the line Sage z-axis( about $700.) to the much more affordable TFO professional series( about $200.). G loomis offers the Eastfork for about $425. and Cortland offers the Brook series 10' 5 weight model for about $200. I've got a Scott 10' 6 weight that I've used for these applications, and will be getting a lighter 5 or possible 4 weight 10 footer. Good Luck! Viking
What are you building EZ? I was just getting ready to order a 9.5 five weight. Looking at the st. croix avid. Viking is right about the ten footer. Echo has some pretty nice ones out right now.
not building anything right now....need to get the fire burning tho,,,,,been a awhile since i built anything....last one i built was a 7wt 9'6' T&T blank...that was maybe 2-3 years ago...
