Im going to be out of fishing for a while, last friday i dislocated my thumb/wrist and I met my surgeon tonight and i have surgery friday but after talking to the doctor im going to be out of fishing for about 6 months. I want to thank everyone who has offered to take me out and given me advice
Kyle, years ago when I injured my right shoulder and my right arm was in a sling, I learned to cast left handed. I wasn't very good at it, but I was still able to fish. I don't know how much function you will have with your right hand, but even with limited function you may be able to fish. At least it's worth considering.
well funny thing is ive always casted left handed, but ive tried and tried but i cannot tie knots (i have zero mobility in my thumb or wrist) and can hardly reel or strip with how it is, so technically i could manage if someone could tie on my flies for me :D
Kyle: Looks like you did that on a motorcycle, been there done that! I had surgery on my right elbow about 6 years ago and my arm was in a soft cast for about 3 weeks, so I had to cast with my left hand which was like learning to cast all over again ! In fact I was on the water fishing exactly 15 hours after my surgery and i caught fish! But in your case without the use of a thumb you can cast left handed but cannot retrieve the line very effectively....that sucks! See ya in August. Bono
