11/7 Yuba report

Emerger and I headed up the Lower Yuba once again, bitten by the egg-bite bug.  It was an absolutely beautiful day up there.  Not too many fishermen or drift boats either.  This salmon run is all but done on the river.  I never would have imagined that when we fished Lower Yuba 6 weeks ago that it would be the height of the egg bite.  A couple of stagglers left and that's it.  Maybe there will be a second run coming, but it does not seem like it.

We each got into a nice fish early, Cliff's being a real healthy, colorful 19" fish, mine was an inch or two shorter.  The rest of the day was pretty slow, as I've read, the post egg bite blues.

I took Cliff to the place with the BEST burgers I have ever had in my life, yes even better than InN 'n Out . . .  Burgers and Brew in downtown Davis.  I'll bet I've been there 15 times and never noticed, but Cliff pointed out right away that it was his kind of place.  The menu has 2 pages of food and 4 pages of beer!  It quenched a thirst from a long day of fishing, and Cliff confirmed that the burgers were outstanding.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to February when the Lower Yuba really gets rocking again with the dry fly activity.

Sounds like an awesome day! But man, Burgers and Brew is where it's at. Racer 5 on tap, and an excellent bacon burger. I ask them to hold the cheddar and pile on the blue cheese. I had to cut back on my visits there - I began to rack up a few pounds. I have to head back soon and see if they have any Pliny the Elder.

I love Burgers and Brew too. I would highly recommend getting one of their 750ml bottles of beer. They are kinda pricey but very delicious. About the same alcohol content as wine. One of my favorite is Maredsous Triple.

Hey Bob, we should definitely plan an outing on the Yuba in February with the regulars!

We could make a weekend out of it and stay up in Yuba City or Grass Valley?  That should be early Skwala time!  Sounds like a great possibility to me.  The wife and I will have just got back from Mexico, so I should have bonus Brownie points built up at that time.

Brian,

Is this the same couch and floor that you've been regaling us with in your bachelor pad stories?  I can only guess what spending a night on that party sponge must smell like??????    We should spend a night up there and save a drive, we'll even spring for you.  I'll let Katie know to come on down as well.

That one made me crack up too - I almost had to explain to my boss why I burst out laughing in my cubicle.
