I just spent 4 days fishing out of Bridgeport with a buddy of mine. We got in later in the afternoon on Thursday and only fished for a little while on the East Walker and checked out locations for the next day. Fished all day Friday and did really well, both of us were well into the 20's with fish counts. Just like a recent report said, most fish were in the 10 to 12 inch range with several going 14 to 16 inches. Fish were caught on dries and nymphs equally. We stayed away from the "Miracle Mile" as it was really, really crowded!
On Saturday we wanted to try something different so we headed down 395 to Rush Creek. If you have never fished it, it's very small, very technical water with a healthy population of browns and rainbows. Again we were both into double digits with fish going to 12 inches but most were in the 8 to 10 inch range. Since this is such small water a 12 incher is a really nice fish. Brush lines both banks so you are in the water the whole time walking upstream. Dries worked really well, sometimes with a dropper picking up fish below.
Sunday we decided to go ahead and brave the crowds and fish the "Miracle Mile." It was not as crowded as Thursday which was weird but we were ready for combat. We started at the lower end and worked our way up to the Big Hole. With as much pressure as this stretch receives we did really well. Nymphs and dries worked good and my buddy got a few pigs on a streamer but was not able to land any of them. At one point I think I pissed off a few guys upstream of me. I caught 11 fish in 1 hour and was the only one hooking up. I heard a guy tell his friend, "damn, that guy got another one!" All very nice fish.
Saw a few browns on redds doing their thing so that was cool to see. I think in the next couple of weeks the spawn will be in full swing. Here are a few pics of the trip, the pics not labeled are on the East Walker River.
