has anybody seen the flows this low before and whats the impact of the flows being this low ! 62qfs I was thinking of going tomorrow to just check it out and possibly fish if thats not to unethical sounds kinda that way. what do you think ? and what's up with those flows
The flows are like this in winter, but I think this is earlier than usual. It could be because of the storm coming through. Once it passes they may raise up the flows again.
Wow, that is a big drop from 200 cfs to 60. The water district is starting the cleaning of the South Canal. PCT could use help from any of the board members to check the creek for fish stranding. Check the side channels closest to the road. Photographs of what you find are helpful. The fishing will probably be slow due to the big drop. You can also expect some big flow increases in the next few weeks followed by some more big drops, so be careful out there. SCWA flushes the canal after they clean it.
I think LilWhippersnapper is right; I biked to work today (miserable) and passed the construction site below Russell in West Davis. It was a big empty ditch when I went by it in the morning, and it was filled with 3-4 feet of water when I biked home. I bet Putah is going to be raging with rain water.
I was out this morning, and the flows are sad... Still caught fish but this time of year the flows shouldnt be that low. It says the flows are at 60cfs I beg to differ... It looks a little lower than that. To low.
I'm thinking of taking a friend to Putah on Sunday for his first trip. If the flows are so low that we'll be doing harm to the river let me know. I sure hope not. . .
Nothing out of the norm folks. Get use to it. The water district views it as an irrigation ditch and could careless about the fish that will begin to spawn during the next 3 mo. or so. If they could just keep 120 + cfs running through the winter months. Really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Especially when the upper river out of middletown is running at or above the same. Factor in the rest of the water sheds and things seem like they would balance out for all.
