JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE!!!!

well times have been tough, but i have been lucky enough to still be able to get on the water and get into some nice fish, with some great people. almost didnt go out on 8/20, but glad i did. it will be a day to remember. it started out with me runnin out of gas in my beater on hwy 50, was saved by fsw. then finally got in the truck with my buddy george and over a 2 hour drive was insite. meet up with his buddy dan for a good breakfast burrito, then on the water we go. was fishing around 930and for the first hour or so a big fat 0 for everyone. i was using my go to set up that has worke well for me that past few weeks on the truckee and figured id give it a shot up there. it was a crayfish, yuba sqwala and pupah rig. it wasnt working, so switched it up to sqwala pupah and midge. and started hittin fish right off the bat. all nice fish 14-18, and fighters. decided to roll down stream a lil farther and fish a deep hole with a nice drop of ledge. with the same set up, did a few roll cast to get some line out, and put my set up in the feeding zone. as the fly started swinging up at the end of the drift the indicator went down. set the hook and ofcourse i was stuck. go figure just retied too. gave it a few more tugs and nothing. then started to pull the line in to break off and it was on, headshakes from hell, pealin line u name it this fish did it. i had to be carefull cuz if it took the midge i was using 5x. so puttin as much pressure on as i felt comfy with, well finally the pig came up from the depths, and i sh-tmyself. HOLY SH-T. it was a moster. this was the fish that i have been looking for since AUG 07 when i started fly fishing. it gave me just enough time to see it took the yuba sqwala (3x, that i tied, hell ya) and the fight was on. i have never felt any headshakes like this before even from steelhead. it was great. fought these beast for what seemed for ever but maybe only 5-7mins, when finally got it in my net, which it didnt fit in. i yelled so loud that i bet people in sac that was over 2 hours away heard me. yelled even louder to get my buddy down to take a few pics as well as a release vid. so he finally got there had to use his net cuz the fish was soooo big. then released it to fight another day. this is the biggest the heaviest trout i have ever caught. FISH OF A LIFETIME!!! has even put some steelhead that i have caught to shame. ill let you guys guess the size of this beast. glad i could share it with my good buddy george who was just as exicted as i was, as well as u guys. cant wait to do it again. oh ya sorry cant tell you where i got it. here are some pics of the day as well as the release vid. enjoy boys and girls.

here are a few small, but respectable guys

now the fish of a lifetime

my favorite pic of them all

and the release vid

Nice fish Brian, that brown is a beauty, and FAT.  As far as length, mark my guess down for 24 1/2"

Freakin serious pig there. I bet you caught it at the same place as I am going tomorrow, next time leave out the hwy 50 reference if ya wanna keep the place under wraps, theres not many places on the 50 corridor that will give up a brown like that.

Brian, you do come up with the pigs of the month, man. What a fish, for anywhere, anytime. HWY 50 'eh? Certainly ain't the Silver Fork of the American. Strawberry Creek, hmmmm, no.

Really, nice fish man.

THANKS GUYS.

when i ran out of gas i was on HWY 50 in Sacramento. lol. but ya u can give 50 corridor a try. there are a lot of browns up that way, especially in those lakes up that way. as far as rivers and creeks dont know about 27"ers, u can probably hit some up in the lower 20"s but uppers would be tough. i know a few nice spots to get into some higher teens lower 20" browns. u was just at it for a few days with lilwhippersnapper. u must go farther into the canyon though to get those boys. 50 corridor is fun this time of yr all dry fly action, hopper dropper combos are killer, so ya hit that sh-t up. lol.

hey shaun heard you did well on the east carson, ill be hittin that up on tuesday, going to take the jeep out for a change and hit up the 4x4 trail.

well looks like ill be back at this spot again on thrusday, get there a lil earlier and fish it hard all day. maybe try a few other different spots in the area that i know has some deep holes just like this that wil hold some porkers.

Brian,

WHat a fish!!!!!!  Are you kidding me??????  After giving up James' secret hole to the entire world, you owe him a lead on this one.  Did you use every entire bit of space on your memory stick on this fish?????  Oh yeah, you sure look ugly next to that brownie.  This is one picture where the best looking one is definitely the fish.  Very, very nice fish.  Time for a Bombay or two to celebrate.

Still bad memories from that one eh?  Man, I just haven't been fishing enough lately.  I've got in a couple of good days on the Yuba, but that's been about it.  I have been playing alot of golf though.  Maybe I'll get up this weekend and fish?  I am going to Montana in 3 weeks for 6 days of fishing on the Beaverhead, Big Hole and Ruby.  That should be great.  I am planning on doing a bit of fall fishing up on the Truckee and hitting the egg bite hard.  I don't know what happened though?  All of a sudden, summer is almost gone!

Brian , also you choked on this one.  I mean all that work Rich and I did for you in the BAr of America just 2 months ago???  Here you are, up in Tahoe, and you have no rendevous set up with her?

Just a quick one to let all know I will be up in the Truckee area tomorrow afternoon and thursday. Only been up there once before, and am new to the game, so will most probably just hit the area around glenshire?? Anyway if anyone else is going to be around there, keep an eye out for a guy with a South African flag on his cap. I would be great to meet some of you guys on the water.

Cheers

Alastair

PS Great fish Brian.....nice tan toobiggrin

Glenshire gets pounded! Try further downstream by Farad or Verdi, really nice pocket water down there.

Brian,

Katie works at that sushi grotto, right next to where we had the killer chicken wings- the 50/50 Brewpub.  You really need to go in there, sip a little sake, have some sushi and plan your life with her . . . kids, cats or dogs,  swingset on the lawn. etc., etc.
What's are you waiting for . . . ?

Dr. B,

Where prey tell did you best Brian's best? PM will suffice. Wanna hear about your latest adventure anyway. I hit the Silver Fork of the American last Monday and Tuesday. Lots of browns and 'bows, but they were all trout fodder compared to Brian's beastie boy, and apparently yours.

You think Brian's fish is actually a vinyl blow-up brown trout from Wallgreens? smile
