I haven't posted in a long long time, but I've been fishin a lot. I'm headin up to my aunt's for a week ,and she lives right by tragedy springs RD, on Hwy 88 (2 miles from kit carson lodge). For flies, I'm guessing traditional dry fly at night, w/ small nymphs for the day time on 18 inches of tippet. I just don't know where to fish around there , besides silver lake. So if any of you guys have any suggestions, please let me know.
I've been fishing up there a lot the last three weekends. You could try the East Carson, West Carson (especially in the evening), the Silver Fork, Red Lake Creek or any of the lakes up there. The fishing is really starting to heat up, but so are the crowds. Just try and get out there early or late and do some hiking...most people hang out at the bridges waiting for the planter trucks.
If you really want to get in some great fishing up there try one of the local guides. I got out with Dereck from Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters last weekend and had one of the best fishing experiences I have ever had up there. They really know the water up there, and there is a lot of it. I'll just leave it at this, he had me fishing a salmonfly hatch on water I have never fished before.

try not to fish red lake creek, flows are very very low, and those fish get fished a lot, let those guys be, red creek is one to be fished early in the yr when the snow starts melting, west carson is a good bet with caddis drys, i was actually gettin many many fish on hoppers to. fished the WC last week and landed well over 80 fish in the upper meadow portion. just park and walk upstream, its a blast. got into a lot of brownies to the farther i went up.
not to far from the upper truckee. that opens up july 1st. just fyi. lots of good fishing on the upper truckee, be stealthy though.

Looks like the flows are perfect for the east carson. 380cfs. Big wild fish. The planters on the west carson are no match. JMO I can't believe you gave up Brian's secret spot! It will be arm to arm this weekend on Red Creek. If you have a dirt vehicle Wolf Creek has been fishing well I hear.

i sure hope not, this time of yr i give up on those nice brookies and cutties on red creek, to much pressure, not enough water, and the water gets way to hot.

How would anyone had known that one of the creeks mentioned was "brian's secret spot." hmmmm.......maybe by saying, "i can't believe you gave away brian's secret spot." lol.

Haha...seriously, I never mentioned anything about "secret spots" or cutts. That was left up to one sly otter. I have been fishing Red Lake Creek for years and there is nothing "secret" about it. It's a typical Tahoe creek right off of the highway that you can fish during high water. Here's a secret; if you want to catch a lot of 4-6" brooks then give it a try....or you could try any other creek in the area and have the same results. I'll even recommend two: Angora Creek & Round Lake Creek.
As for the big cutts they only come into the river to spawn, so sorry but they are no longer in there. That's why in a previous post I recommended that it be left alone. What ever happened to those pics of those nice big spawning cutts that BC was catching? Hmmmm...guess he couldn't figure out how to photo shop color into their beat up white tails.
Otter you're right, those flows are looking good. It will be even better in a month when the flows are around 200 and the hoppers catch fire. I'll still be out there this weekend if you'd like to join me. I'm always willing to help a child fish. You are five right?
GOOD ONE jmo32. very funny. sorry to burst your bubble here but i dont bother them when they are spawning on redds or post spawn for that matter. once i see a redd or them building a redd, i take off, and fish elsewhere. a lot more water up there to fish. u can think what u want, but those that fish with me know i am a very ethical fisherman. as far as your comment about white tails, thats really funny, and the photo shop thing even better. but as far as the white tails go, when ever i have fished up there for the cutts, i have never seen them with white tails, may i ask what u are doing to these poor lil fish that make them have white tails. isnt there some type of DFG beasteality law that prohibits such actions upon fish. as far as me, never seen them with white tails. so i guess u must know from hands on experience about there white tails, cuz i dont, full tails, and no whiteness what so ever. full beautiful cutty color. really photo shop, i wouldnt even know where to begin. dont need it and will never need it. i stay away from redds.

ok.....so im drunk...let it be known. its the 4th after all, and not to call anyone out....but come one bc, last time you posted about red and catching cutties, they were spawning, they dont go up red $%^#$ without spawning. I will say, JMO is one of my closest fishing buddies, and he would NEVER fish to a spawning fish, matter of fact last time we went to red to pick up trash after fishing the carson we almost got into a fight with some guy deliberately snagging spawners.
Brian, i wouldn't think you are the type to snag spawners, i have talked to you before and you seem like a great guy who cares about the fishery, lets just get along and hope everyone else C&R's in our footsteps, its all of our wildreness to explore.
except for vince....i cant take him anywhere without him loosing monster fish right in front of me...damn fish nerd
