Shaun, for recent reports , flows, flies, etc, you can check the Troutfitter and Sierra Drifters web pages. It's hard to beat Crowley lake when it's "on". There are some really nice browns waiting for you at Twin Lakes. The San Juaquin river is a lot of fun early to mid season before it gets too low. There is so much excellent water in thr Eastern Sierras between Mammoth and Bishop! My buddies and I spend a week there each October and always have a blast. I would suggest stopping at the Troutfitter and Rick's in Mammoth for the latest info. If you head to the East Walker, Bridgeport reservoir, Twin Lakes, stop in at Ken's in Bridgeport. Have a great time, Viking
Shaun, if you make it to Bridgeport bring your float tube. Wait until early evening then float near the dam and strip buggers, that's when the browns are active.
Shaun...if you get down to Bishop and have 1/2 - 3/4 day to spare I'd head up Bishop Creek toward Sabrina. Bishop creek is heavily stocked and fished, but very pretty. Go all the way to Sabrina for the beauty...and the fishing can be very good as well.
On the way back down, take the North Lake turnoff. This road gets narrow and steep, but is doable in a passenger car easily. You'll have views down the Bishop Creek canyon from about 11,000 feet. Then you drop just a bit into north Lake. It's paradise for a tuber and can be very good for large fish, even from the bank...
Thanks for all the great ideas guys ! Keep em coming I'm open and willing to try pretty much anyplace. It's like a flyfishermans paradise over there. Hey, wich way do you all go to get there from the bay area ? Last time I did tioga pass there and sonora pass on the way back, Freakin 6 1/2 hours each way.
Hey you should try to get hold of 'jvento' (Jon) he lives up around there. Not sure if he is there at the moment but PM him I am sure he knows a few other good spots up there.
