All I can say to those guys who couldn't make it.....you missed a great time! Thanks again to Bob for hosting at his place. It was another good group of guys to fish with.
The beer at the Blue Coyote was in full flow Thursday night. Right on schedule, Brian took another dump or 3 streamside. Shaun's new screen name is changing to Dr. Bombay....or Superman. Vince lost his Little Truckee virginity. Alex had to leave way too soon. Brian may have met his future wife with help from Bob. Bar of America = good times. The chef needs to learn what medium well is. Bob should be banned from using the Lemberton fly. 40 fish days are possible. The Dallas Cowboys suck but they have HOT fans in Glenshire.....
The trip: Thursday fished the LT, very slow but a few nice fish were hooked and landed. I think I caught the smallest fish in the river, a 10 inch brown. Vince hooked a monster on a dry but it wrapped him around a rock and broke off. Slow day for the most part. Friday we trekked over to the Middle Fork Feather and caught a ton of fish. Most were in the 6-10 inch range with a few that went 12+. Brian caught a nice brown. Saturday fished the Truckee down low by Farad. None of us had fished that far down before but it's really nice water. Fishing was slow for most of us with only a few fish but Bob did well. Sunday hit the North Fork Yuba on the way home. Found a great stretch of pocket water that was loaded with fish. Mostly small but Shaun caught one that was reported to be around 14-15 inches.
My camera took a dump so I don't have any photos to share but the other guys do. That's my report and I'm sticking with it no matter what the other guys say!
Packrat you summed it up perfectly. Good times, good fishing, awesome country, and A great group of guys that KNOW how to fish ! Thanks so much to Bob for having us, His hospitality is second to none.
man what a trip, again thanks bob for being a great host job. dont know about future wifey, but future fling for sure. maybe i should call her. lol.
as far as fishing goes i really cant complain. alex and i fished hirshdale early weds morning. nothing for alex, but i hooked 3 and landed one nice 13" brown. around 1ish we went over to glenshire. folks that were heading home said the fishing was slow, but they fished it when it was sunny. we got there just in time for the clouds to roll in. and right of the bat we got into some very nice strong truckee bows. alex missed many on drys and nymphs. i hooked up withing a few minutes on a nice skwala stone nymph, a beautiful fat 16"er, with in a few more minutes got into another nice fatty as well on an reddish orange 18 pupah. then bob showed up, he got into some right away with his parachute adams, which seemed to be the fly for the whole trip. just ordered about 20 different ones from blue fly. fishing was slow for me and alex for a while, but around 5pm sun came back out, alex called it a day. but i wasnt, i pulled out my scott sts 10' 6wt with sink tip sa line and at the end of that a 20" of floro 1x tippet with a kelly galloups articulated rust sdundeon for a streamer. got some line out so i can start casting and before i could pull it out of the water a big huge truckee rainbow was on the end, set the hook the best i could and the fight was on. this thing bent my 6wt over like some of the steelies i caught this yr. man it was a blast after a good long 5 min battle landed the pig took a few pics of this 20"er was well over 2lbs and gave her a safe release. so the next cast in i actually got this one across the deep pool i was fishing and while stripping it in i saw another even bigger rainbow following my streamer close behind, she hit it, i paused did a small stripped and she hammered it and another 5 min battle pursued. landed her took a few more pics and off she went as well. a tad bit bigger, 22-23"s, and to me was pushing 3lbs. as far as thurday little truckee was great. hooked a big fatty brown on the 3wt on a size 18 yellow humby pushing the upper 20s if not almost 30. the fish was huge and schooled my ass. the LT HUMBLED ME THIS TRIP OUT. not a huge fan of drys and i really got humbled, but also realized that i need to fish more with drys so next time out there wont be a next time or a losted picture worthy fish. friday, well great day on the middle fork of the feather. great river, lovely fish, and great group of guys. oh ya and dont forget about the camp counselor that was gorgous and got locked out of the camp, so she had to cross the river. great body, great legs, and well drop dead gorgous.
as far as woman, they were all over the place, the blue coyote with the peruvian waitress again, and a few other blonde ones, the bar of american of course, and who can forget the low buttoned white blouse blonde at the sierra valley lodge.
WHAT A GREAT TRIP. MAYBE WE SHOULD DO 2 A YR, ONE IN JUNE AND ONE IN OCT/NOV TIME FROM FOR BIG BROWNIES. WHAT U GUYS THINK ABOUT THAT. 2 TRIPS UP THERE A YR
hope to have my pics up tomorrow. forgot to bring the camera to work today.
ill be out in that area on thrusday, hope to get revenge on the lt. we shall see. maybe ill go a different route and get into some 2-4lb brookies. i have a secret spot that was just told to me. cant wait.

I said this in person, but it really does deserve to be said one more time... thanks Bob! There was just no possible better introduction to these rivers for me. I'm already tying up a storm and itching to go back.
I SAY WE DO ANOTHER TRIP IN OCT/NOV BEFORE THE BIG STORMES COME IN.
what u guys think. big browns and rainbows on light tippet and 3wts. lets roll

I agree, what a great time. These are the times that we really enjoy life and chuckle a bit for years to come. The weather was great outside of a thunderstorm or two, the company was fun and we got to see the incarnation of the soon to be famous Dr. Bombay.  Black Cloud's "secret" on the other side of the lake is now intimately known to 5 other avid fishermen!!!!! Those fish will be deeply schooled this year before you know it.Â
The trip began with some solid fishing at the Glenshire area of the Truckee. Some nice fish made it in during an afternoon of fishing. Brian decided to enjoy the nice afternoon and shed his shirt while fishing. I guess he figured that once he had mastered the underwear thing, he didn't need to worry about any protective clothing. See the picture below for results of this experiment. We had dinner at the 50/ 50 Brewpub. Alex and I downed an order of Atomic chicken wings. This may have been an understatement as we about burned our lips of. Those were the hottest wings that I have ever had. The next morning we determined what they say is true . . . you can feel really hot wings coming and going.
Day 2 was a  run to the LT to meet everyone else on the river. After a slow morning of fishing, the afternoon got going with some nice rainbows landed. The LT fatty's came to christen Vince with his first LT trout and it was a beautiful fish. Some really nice guy(me) let Vince jump into the hole he was working and take out this working beauty pictured below. I tossed in a couple of other pictures of nice landed bows that day.  We decided to run down to the Truckee and pull some streamers in the Downtown area of the river for the evening. We soon realized that it would be dark before we could really get going. Understanding that some of the best times can come from ad-libbing, and that we were close to the Bar of America, we quickly beat tracks over there. It was a good decision which led to a hilarious evening. Little did we know that the best drift of the trip would be laid for Brian in this establishment. Sadly, the "trout" shook aff after a couple of headshakes and Brian was left with an empty net.
The NF Feather was next. We all got many fish that day, with a few decent ones landed. I came way to close to a rattler as I was working the stream, but my cat-like quickness prevented any tragedies from occuring. I think that snake is still shaking his rattles at me. The area we were working was about 1 mile downstream from the Plumas Pines Golf Course. The runoff had washed about 300 golf balls downstream. Recognizing a good opportunity when it's before me, I took about a 10 minute break from fishing to sort through the golf balls. Bingo, I pocketed 17 Titleist Pro V balls, which are $5 apice.  Quickly, I was $85 ahead today!!!!!Â
We then fished the Lower Truckee just above Farad. What a pretty stretch of river. We head to jump under a railway overpass to dodge rain and lightning for about a half hour. The fishing required work, but nice fish were to be had. A couple of brownies are posted below.
Last day on the NF Yuba. Many small fish and a few nice ones. Dr. Bombay (Shawn) landed a really nice 15" rainbow that had his rod all bent up.  I hope you change your screen name to this and post a bottle of it as your Avatar. I think the NF Yuba will fish REALLY well in a couple weeks when it's down just a little bit. I always love the beauty of this river. I've got a cool photo below of Packrat and Vince working one of the holes.
Alistair, for your benefit, I have posted a new leader for smallest fish of the year. Besides how small he is, notice: a) he's caught on a dry b) he's hooked right through the lip. I told the guys that I was going to fish this tiny spill-in in search of a fish smaller than yours. Sure enough, first cast produced a winner. We all laughed. You've got some work to do now.
The Blue Coyoyte is about 1/2 keg lower on Hefeweizen after our visits. What a great time fishing and laughing with you guys. Don't worry Brian, Rich and I will offer you that pick-up class on a podcast for your benefit. I like the fall idea as well, we'll see what works out with this soon. Great times!!!!!!
Oh yeah, the correct name of that hot fly is Lambroughton's Pheasant Tail!!!!!!

July 1st, beginning of July... Same thing. Just messing with ya. I didn't check the board since like march or april. I was starting to miss all you guys on here.
"Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn." - Anon.
u can count me in, i think sept is to early, need to get a week or so to where the temps fall below freezing, that will really wake the fish up. especially if u wanna throw some big fat streamers, by that time they will chase anything near them.
but yes lets make something happen say october time.
