What's the weather going to be like? I guess I'll pack my wonderbra and a matching thong and my biot baetis with biot wet fly.

My fly names have a great history. Around 2003 when the flows were higher on the east side of #5 my friend Jared and I used to hammer fish on the road side. Especially at the top of the Island in a fast channel that fed a great big whirlpool that we called the "toilet bowl". There were a lot more people fishing the creek back then and they were nosy and sometimes rude. I had guys grab my rig and say "what you got on there?" Jared and I got pretty damn tired of it. We got to the point when we hooked a fish we'd put our rod tips in the water and pretend nothing was going on except taking a leak or something.

One day somebody saw one of us fighting a fish and hollered "what you got on?" I engaged, paused, looked down the inside of my waders for a few seconds and hollered back "It's damn hot out, a wonderbra and a matching thong - how 'bout you?". He left. Jared and I got it and started wearing orange and purple thongs outside of our waders and acted weird around the other anglers. It worked! Jared is now stationed in the Pentagon after his Travis stint and that's all I can say about him. As for me.....

Wonderbra: brachycentrus or hydropsyche pupae very well done. Shane Stalcup helped me out with this one. Matching thong: ovipositing brachycentrus fished as a wet fly, or better yet as a nymph dead drifted along the bottom behind a riffle. Mmmmm....tasty!

See you tomorrow!

I don't know the creek anymore. I really look forward to hanging out tomorrow.

Bernie

I hope you guys have a blast today on Putah, listen well and of course catch lots of fish! I wish I could be there for the class, but it's all right, I'll be doing some learning of my own on Hot Creek :)
