Had a few hours yesterday, and the flows seemed managable for this time of year. Havn't had much luck latley at # 5, so I thought I'de give # 1 a try. Started out abouve the bridge for a change, no luck. I did however overhear the conversations of a few campers, bait guys. One old man was telling his neighbor that his son got 4 that week, none under 6 lbs. Another young man yelled at me, said somthing about fish. He mumbled that he got one yesterday, "big fish, strong". Then he rubbed his tummy and said, "big fish, strong, cook, mmm good". Well he had downsydrome, so I gave him the thumbs up and moved on. Not a strike for me. It bummed me out to know these beautiful fish were being caught and ending up in a camp scillit. I'm thinking about going to Safeway and buy a couple of dozen farmed trout and passing them out to the campers. Maybe PTO can hand out coupons for one free slushie for every fish released, or better yet a Coors Lite. I moved down below the bridge and cheered up when I landed a few fish in the 4 to 8 inch range. Good to see that there are young fish in the creek and the creek is productive. Moved a little further down, hooked a few more smallies, then landed a nice 20-22 incher. Beutiful fish, I love the look this time of year, all healthy and sleek. Broke off one more even bigger. Not bad for this time of year, three hours round trip and three hours fishing.
Perhaps the bait guys are doing so well because most of them are probably using nice heavy rigs. Perhaps you should try some more weight? Obviously, you ended up landing some nice fish so you were doing the right thing. But it was just something that I was thinking about...
I brought up quite a bit of vegitation, so I think I was fine with the weight. And by no means was I complaining about the quantity of fish I caught in my post. Just hadn't seen too many recent reports posted, thought I'd share the experience of a novice
