The Pit River and the Upper Sac

I was working in Redding last week and decided to hit a few rivers.  Went to the Upper sac after work on Thursday and got skunked.  Fished a few spots around Conant and only hooked one fish.  It proceeded to snap my dry fly off with no problem.  Didn't see many fish rising.   River is fairly high for this time of year.

Read a few reports about the Pit and heard through the grapevine that the Pit is on fire.  Well it is at times??  Fished the Pit friday night and it was on fire.  I went to sleep early so I could get up and whack a few more.  I was counting fish trying to get to sleep.  59, 60, 61.  I woke up at 5:30, which is very rare, looked at the riffle and it was bone dry.  Rubbed my eyes looked again and it was still bone dry.  You thought Putah flows were bad.  The river dropped three feet overnight.

Saw some good water downstream and hit that area.  First cast fish on.  Every ten feet there are a few more fish.  The fish are big and hungry.  It takes a while to move ten feet, but it is worth it.

Fished a few areas around Big Bend.  What a great place.  First time to the Pit.  I was driving around and hiking more than fishing.  Once in the water it was good fun.
