Memorial Day Tahoe report

Headed up to Truckee for the Memorial Day weekend and got in a good dose of time on the water.  The Truckee is coming into shape very nicely.  It is a little high but very fishable.  Had a nice day on the Truckee.  Landed a number of fish on dry flies, nothing huge, but decent size.

When we were on the Truckee on Sunday, low and behold, the new Truckee DF&G Warden, Adam Kavanaugh pops up.  He had hoofed about 3/4 of a mile up from the Glenshire access.  He put us through all of the hoops, even asked me my birthday in order to validate that I was the license holder.  He thoroughly checked all equipment and barbs. It was great to see.  He said he had written several citations that day already, so . . . be sure to have your act in gear up there.

We hit the MF Feather on Friday, again a little high but very fishable.  A ton of bugs were on the water . . . Yellow Sallies, PMD's, Midge's and Mayflies.  A good afternoon rise came up around 3:00.  We were able to land a few decent fish, the largest being about 17", and a bunch of smaller fish.

We went over to fish the LT, but unfortunately flows were dialed down to 50 CFS on Thursday, making it just a bit more than a big puddle. Man, I hated seeing that.  Usually at this time of year it's at 200-300 CFS.  There was a huge thunderstorm up there this afternoon with near marble sized hail.  Maybe they'll open the gates up at Stampede again and get the water flowing a little more with this rain.

We had a great weekend up in the Tahoe Area as well.  Great report Bob.  We hit a little lake that holds a lot of brownies.  After we figured out the hatch several fish were landed.  The highlight of the weekend was when we decided to hit the LT for an hour or less.  It did look really low, but some guy on this board landed a monster brownie.  Here he is fighting the fish.

That is not me. The guy is about twice my height. I was just taking the photos. It was an epic battle!! A few seconds after this photo he nearly stepped on a much bigger fish!!!

Lucky dog you ! I figured I'd miss something like that. I told him about how the fish swim right around your feet in that river. Good times guys.
