Cruised up to the feather river this weekend ....I convinced Emerger to join me so I would have someone to blame if the fishing was poor.Good old Emerger wasted no time and hooked up on a few nice steelies right off the bat.At this point I was now calling him farmer....Moved to the next spot and started to do a little more damaged...By the time we hit the third spot Emerger must have switched gears and didnt clue me in on the new plan.He was on fire.He was putting it to me in a big way...Im a big enough man to admit when Ive been beat....Final tally for the day wasnt even close.I had 13 steelhead to his 200 SQUAWS and SUCKERS....
After you took me out the last go around to the Feather, I decided to try on my own this past Saturday. I didn't get 13 steelhead (or 200 suckers), but I did get five hookups with three to net. One was a 26 inch hatchery (my personal best of any sized fish), one 20 inch wild. . . oh, and one sucker (didn't measure him).
I've been considering trying the Feather (if I can get the girlfriend to lend me her car - oh how it stinks being a student). Where's a good place to start?
I was on the Feather this weekend too and the big boys where in there. Also suckers to, not including myself. Hooked one and nothing else for the rest of the day. Vince, try reading the Plumas County Trout Fishing Guide, by Andrew Harris, $15.95. Lots of good info, but beyond that, The Feather has tons of spots and tributaries to try, so just hit it! Follow HWY 70 out of Oroville towards Quincy. Paracute Adams #16 after the sun goes behind the mountains!!!!!
Hey vince, If you want to learn the feather I will give a guided tour of the upper half in low flow.Alls you got to do is make a donation to Putah Creek Trout for no less than 75 bucks....... mx19
MX put me on some nice fish Vince. $75 is a steal for what he can show you on the Feather. Money well spent. You may need to carry him around a bit though, he's getting on in years ya know.
I've only been to the Feather once. And it was a great time. Didn't catch anywhere near 200 fish. or even 13. :) But I did catch 5 and none of them were below 20 inches. Which was nice.
I think I spent more hours driving around those wildlife area rocky roads than I did fishing. But, it sure was worth it. Next time I know exactly where to go and more importantly, where not to. :D
