Forum Members: PCT is recruiting new members to join the fight for our beloved Creek. Yearly membership is $25, but for $40, you can also join us for a Day on the Yuba on private waters (the additional $15 covers expenses to set up the trip). Right now, we have at least 10 openings of the 20 members allowed to attend. The trip is planned for all day June 6 at the UC Davis Extension property above highway 20. Payment (membership + trip) is due when you arrive at the site. Below is a link to the UCD site. Its a great place to spend the day and catch some nice fish. There are a number of Yuba experts signed up, so its a chance to learn the water if you are new to it. Send me a PM if you are interested. More information will be provided later.
The day of fishing on the Lower Yuba is on a Saturday. I was wondering if some people would be interested in driving up and staying in Downieville Saturday night and then fishing the NF Yuba on Sunday???!!!!
If I head down that way on Sunday I'll keep an eye open. I'll have a gold 4Runner with bike racks on the roof. I'll be up there for a week but also have to keep the wife and infant entertained. One of those days I'd like to hike up Haypress for some brookies. Depending on the flows I've been thinking of the wild trout section of the NF as well.
I cannot make Sunday on the NF Yuab after all. What the hell, it was a good idea. The Lower Yuba flows are AT LEAST DOWN TO FISHABLE LEVELS!!!!!! sEE YOU GUYS THERE.
Who's going tomorrow? It looks like the flows are coming down and the fish should be rising. I don't imagine there has been much pressure up there for the past few weeks. WT was tying up a nice Yuba fly, the old rubberlegs. MX19 has that thing tied on all day long when he fishes the yuba. He also uses some knotted up ball of yarn he calls a fly.
Since I have another non profit fly fishing function to attend to sat, I thought I would at least pass on the list of flies I would be using if I were going...
In the morning while its still cool I would use a #14 copper john as my dropper and a #8 black and brown rubber legs as my lead fly.Once the temp warm up I would start to thinking about some caddis.Size 14. hare's ear, pupah, dirty bird, or a wander bra if you know who to get them from.....
Dont be chicken to use some weight like a SSG....
Otter, shame on you....I dont know what your taking about.....
Good times were had by all! Libby was putting all the boys to shame in the morning, she landed 4 or five fish on dries before lunch. I saw Steve, one of our new members hook into four or five fish and land a nice 20 incher. We had the river covered for two miles up or downstream and just about everyone caught some fish. SK was attacked by a flying snake. Emerger ended up outfishing everyone by using those size 20 flies. Vince and his buddies all caught some fish, I could hear them whooping it up about a mile downstream. Two guys hiked nearly all the way to the dam and caught some nice fish, sorry forgot your names. Bernie was out there catching some fish. One Weight outhiked everyone and was getting into the fish on dries. That is just a quick recap. I will let RG Loft post about his fish story I don't think I could do it justice. Where were you Robbie?
Thanks to everyone who attended, and don't forget next weekend is the fundraiser. Saturday June 13th 12-5Â
Davis Family Vineyards, 52 Front Street, Healdburg $15 at the door gets you one complimentary glass of wine and all the food you can eat. Lots of cool stuff has been donated by local fly shops. And a raffle for that nice fish carving.

You're right, it was a good time. Next time I hang around and socialize more during the day!!! However, those Hefe's sure t6asted good after the hike back.
that sounds like a heck of a time, but this weekend i was tying flies working on my drift boat and "studying" for finals... the boat is almost there. two or three more weeks and it will be ready for her first voyage! maybe even get it on the yuba soon too!

Snake? What flying snake? I forgot my lunch and just got hungry.
MX19-thats "Wonder Bra", not "wander"-I think Richard Hardwood was tying some for you, but maybe not after mangling its name. Did he promise to make up some "Matching Thongs" as well?Â

One fish in eight months is good for a beginner. It took me a year before I caught a fish on the fly rod. In fly fishing, there are many "firsts" that make it a great experience... the first fish you catch, the first fish on the dry you catch, the first fish you catch on your own (without a guide), the first fish you catch on a fly you tied, etc. You can been ten years into it and you'll still have "firsts" to look forward too. And you've already had your first steelhead on, I saw that!
I netted that guy that you caught and got a good look at him. Don't feel too bad about foul hooking him - sometimes that happens when you fish droppers. I've had fish bite the first fly, then get hooked in the side by the lower dropper. Sometimes the first hook comes out during the time you're playing them and the foul hook stays in. I bet this is what happened to your fish - the first time it jumped it looked to be hooked clean in the mouth off the top fly.
So don't fret buddy; just keep hitting that water.
