Had a nice afternoon on the creek. After a few hours of sight fishing with one pretty nice fish to hand (see photos of him in the water and the one where I zoomed too close and missed a perfect photo with reflection in the water), I moved to a hole I can get to at the suddenly low flows.
Fish were killing a gray wd 40 and sniffing an orange fox poopah and a green micro mayfly.
Must have gotten 25 fish to hand with another 15/20 ldrs. Couple nice ones came unbuttoned, several 10-14 inch fish landed and a boatload of little ones.
Steve (SK60), lots of little fish pics to show the viability of the fishery.

Hey thats my favorite spot! One of your pics gave it away. Flows must have come way down for you to make it there. I fished the other side on Tuesday and came real close to a free ride. Great to see the pictures of the little guys. I get just as excited with the ones that can fit in the palm of your hand. After having a rough early spring, its nice for me to see that the fish have not gone away. Great pics.
Good job JL. I don't think I would have even noticed the take on some of those smaller fish. I always wonder how many smaller fish I might miss because of some of the larger indicators I use.
JMO - that goes to a couple finer points of indicator nymphing.
1. Tight line when possible 2. When indicator nymphing, any HESITATION or move sideways or anything not natural can be a take.
A lot of times, the little fish hit super aggressively, and the take is obvious. Sometimes it's a take right when the indicator hits the water so you have to watch like a hawk.
Sometimes, you just have to feel it and set the hook proactively... if you're in good water, you just may be getting a bite, esp. if the action is hot.
MX - you know I won't give up my secret spot. I might as well let you borrow my magic blue shirt, which JT got to see in person the other day.
Come on JL...You said your were going to show me your super secret hot spot and let me wear your lucky blue shirt.....Are you still mad that we got the van stuck.... mx19
MX - i'm not mad about the van, just about the fact that you fooled me into thinking you knew what you were doing driving out onto the scree. Without that meth addicted vagabond and his jalopy 4x4, we would have been snake food.
JL
But, nice guy that I am, next time we go out, you get the blue shirt.
I went back a few days later and brought that guy a few big boxes of food and some dog food....He later came down to the river where I was fishing and hung out for a while...I gave him your Ph# and address.told he could crash at your house and play a few rounds of golf.... mx19
Caught them today on Olive Poopah, grey and red Wd-40s. I caught one nice 14incher, but he pulled some acrobatics right when I was getting out the camera and got away.
Hey Vince-could you email me the originals. I will forward to DFG as part of the wild trout story thats under construction. MX19 claimed he took a ton of small fish pictures BEFORE JL, but now claims his Mac died so he couldn't send them. I've never heard of a Mac dying before, is that possible?
A Mac, broken? I can't believe it . I can always take a look at it, in exchange for a fly or two.
Interesting tidbit: many Dell's, HP's and iMacs from around 2005 are dying now (if they haven't already) due to a bad batch of Taiwanese capacitors. Apparently, an industrial spy stole the electrolyte formula from a reputable manufacturer, but copied it down incorrectly. Millions of cheaper but bad capacitors were manufactured and placed in computers of all brands, as well as other electronics. They are all failing now... all because of a crazy case of industrial espionage!
Those pics are great. Â You have three age classes of fish in one post! One of the criteria for wild trout designation is showing multiple age-classes and you've done that really nicely in your post. Â We'll have to make sure that the DFG folks see this. Â Thanks!
JL: I know exactly where you were,a couple of years ago I crossed that area at 420 cfs and well lets put it this way,I will NEVER EVER do that again!!!!The results were similar it seems that 90% of the fish in that area this time of year are smaller than in the Winter months.Anyway its good to see that somebody is still catching fish on Putah when things have been so slow! See you all next Monday when me and MX19 host the class on Putah.
Yes , its true.My mac took a big fat dump.I lost a lot of info and yes pics of small fish..What sucks the most are the photos and video I lost of my son. From birth to 5 months...Sk60, if you are up to the challenge and a bit of a nasty hike' I will show how to get to JL's secret spot, with out drowning .Then you can take all the pics you want...
P.S.  anybody work for a data recover center that can get my info off the hard drive with out charging me the cost of the entire sage line.....

JL first of all you ARE insane crossing at those flows!!! And MX19 you and Steve had better bring your pruning shears and poison oak repellent if your taking the "hike"!!Hope to see you all at the wine fest fundraiser. By the way had a decent day yesterday at access #5 with a couple of really great guys just learning the ropes of flyfishing from Chicago, mostly midge patterns did the trick. We tried drys but to no avail. Bono
MX - data recovery services mostly pay by the meg for what they recover, or charge fixed fees for success only. Â When I lost a harddrive, it was going to cost me 3 or 4 Â hundred to get it back, but the drive was totaled.
