I am no expert on Hat creek but I've camped out at cassle campgrounds which is an entrance to baum lake an some excelent fishing. There is also a forbay at the camp grounds that have rainbows and brook trout. Try a weighted black wooly bugger and you should be in fish all day. They are all planters but a good place to try if you are new to this. Good luck
Fished hat 5/10 and 5/11... Stayed away from the PH2...First day I fished the Pitt till 5 pm...epic hatches of HydroPsych Caddis through mid day produced several fish over 20 ''. Made it to Hat for the evening hatch. Started out slapping a salmon fly around... brought up a few fish. Noticed some green drakes coming off so i switched it up...first cast in the zone...Wack...this continued till dark. Day two...Started on the Pitt again...water came down quite a bit where I was...still managed to persuade a few but not nearly as hot as the day before....Made my way over to hat earlier. Started out nymphing. Took some switching to find what they were eating...did well with green drakes, hydropsych caddis, and PMDs.. Multiple hatches started early evening...Majic hour arrived and fish were rolling....repeat perfomance on Green Drakes... Great to be throwing dries again...make the trip if you got the time...Spring has arrived.....
I fished the Pit also on the 10th and 11th. they were my best days ever on the Pit. Lots of big fish. Two fish over 20 inches and lots in the 15 to 19 inch range. I fished Pit 3, 4, and 5 and caught fish in all the reaches. Caddis flies were unbelievable. Don't know how to load pics on this forum.
