Welcome to MY world! I am still biteless at Putah for the year but I know it gets better.

It stinks getting no action. I know how it feels. I'm married. Jk. Really now, Were there any others out fishing? Was the water pretty clear? Were you adjusting the depth of you flies? Was each of your casts in water that you thought fish would be holding? Were you feeling the bottom? You know I'm not. Sorry, I couldn't... I'm serious, You have to make each cast count. Don't waste your time on water that doesn't look fishy. Watch guys that look like they know what they are doing. Fish as much as you can afford. I suggest getting a guide or taking a nymphing clinic for a weekend and save a lot in the long run. Good luck guys I got skunked for several months when I approched the creek with a fly rod.
I know the feeling, the married part. I was the only car on the entire length of the creek. I pulled every trick out of the bag. Adjusted everything. Nothing. The water looked good, a little "milk" in it. I didn't see a living thing in the water. Only living thing there was a couple of ducks. I know it's a tough creek to fish. I got to try out my G loomis that I built over the winter. See there was some good in the day.

papaoak- this was caught on Saturday. The wind wasn't too bad, but it was raining quite a bit. I can't tell if this is a wild trout - it had good colors, but not as rich as I've seen and it didn't fight very hard.
either or its a nice fish. Nicely done and it looks like your beating out a bunch of the other fisherman out there including me! skunked last time i went out. only one fish on all day... keep it up for all of us!

Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.
One strike for me yesterday, in 8 hours of fishing! Wind made it tough, but when the wife gives me an all day hall pass, I'm on it.
I did hook the fish that struck. I knew it was healthy, thout I had it under control, then he took off striped 30 feet of line, jumped about 4 feet in the air and spit the hook. The biggest fish I've hooked in my first year of fly fishing. Heart pounding excitement that kept on the watter another 3 hours.
Also saw my first otter on the creek. He obviouslly didn't scare the lunker out of the pool.
Putah Creek used to be fun to fish, then the planting ceased and the conventional fishers continued killing fish. Thus, the best and possibly only time that you'll catch fish these days is November through February when the spawning begins and you can chace rainbows trying to get a free meal.
Only time will tell how the current situation will turn out. Some argue that DFG will make it a Wild Trout section and after a few years good fishing will return once the conventional fishers leave and don't return once a no take limit is imposed. Others, however, are of the opinion that this is the worse thing that could have happended to the Creek and good fishing will take 10 years to return whether there is a 5 limit or 0 limit regulation imposed.
My advise is to do as many of us have done, find a new favorite hole. There are a few within an hour or two drive (ie, Truckee, Butte, Cache, San Juaqin, etc). Don't give up, just do a lot of research by talking to old timers, guides, fly shops and by looking at the myriad of books available on N Cal fly fishing.
