How did it go up there Papaoak? The fishing is better the farther you hike above the bridge. Don't even stop to fish the lower stuff, just walk past all the people that aren't catching any fish!!!
in my opinion, Yuba has been its true self lately........fickle....one day producing and the next slow....one morning producing and the afternoon slow....etc. same patterns you normally use this time of year are working, no real "hatches" to speak of yet, not sure why i keep reading all the hype about the skwalas all ready being out on other web cites, havn't seen very many yet and have been fishing it often. Deffinately was better a couple weeks ago with all the drizzly days, had some fun. Ultimately, you never know what the next day will bring......like all things in life, make it your own.
Otter, watch out how far you wade up past the bridge, there are grizzly bears and mountain lyons lurking in the shadows
by the way.......THE FLOWS SUCK......good for wading, unfortunately not good for fishing for steel, never have a seen the flows this low for so long, fish can barely make it up to Diguere. Not much of a winter run to speak of this year, havn't heard of any reports of big fish landed this year, and i personally havnt landed any bigguns, or seen any for that matter. Thank God for the bows.

Mountain lion and grizzly bears? I am not so worried about those little critters, it is the mean guys with guns that scare me. The big fish are deep deep deep in the pools!!! Did I say deep. Saw some more salmon up there during the drizzly days. I have only seen one skwala scurrying in the rocks, but the nymphs are in water!
Fickle is right. I had one hit the whole day. It was a nice rainbow 14+ that was the only fish I landed and saw landed. The water was low and clear it was also hot and the wind came up and it was all but over. No hatch no risers and no people. I saw 6 guys all day, which was nice. I am trying to give Putah a break which means more miles on the road. I didn't get the post about moving up untill I was back. I landed my only fish under the bridge. Other than a lack of fish it was a good day. Thanks guys for the tips. #14 alvin is what he took, and he slammed it. Tight lines
lions n tigers n Bears . are you sure. seriously . please reply i take my girl with me . and don,t want to get hurt or worse. on the brighter side ive been throwing flys for weeks at putah and havent gotten even a bump let alone catch one but went to the yuba at the bridge and my girl caught one in the first five minutesi think i need to put some weight on
I fish the Yuba often. With these low flows, results depend on the weather. During the bright sunny days that we've been seeing, it is tough. If clouds roll in, even if the water is still see-thru, fishing can pick up quickly. I fished two consecutive days in late December. First was sunny and warm and I caught just two fish in 6 hours. Clouds and a bit or rain came in overnight and I landed 9 steelhead all of which were 22-24 inches except for one larger male and one 16" female that was a "lost" planter fish that got into the Yuba by mistake.
Both days I was fishing a small beadhead nymph with an egg pattern up top. Most fish took the bead.
Keep in mind that these fish are moving up the river. There are excellent slots immediately up and down from the bridge and if worked properly these can often yield fish---even if another fisherman just left.
My friend has access above the bridge and tells me he caught a lunch-time female last week that measured in at 27 inches.
9 fish 22-24 inches and one bigger in one day is a VERY NICE day on the Y. Havnt caught that many big fish by myself in one day on the Y in years, or forever for that matter, nice work.
Egg point fly with a small dropper is a great set up year round on the Y.
