I've been an east coast small stream fly fisher for years and want to get back into fly fishing after having moved to the SfFBay area a few years ago.

I thought I'd like to try surf casting for Surf perch, around the Santa Cruz, Monterey areas. What's the time of year when these are catchable?

The "Zen" site is a great source of information on surf fishing. 

In regards to when is a good time to fish, how about now?

Also check out www.surf-perch.net .

You can figure out the best times to fish by looking through his post and also a graph of what fish were caught when.

I went last weekend, even though it not the best season. Got skunked in the process but had fun just the same.
