Now that the regular season is closed its time to watch for the intentional violators, or the simply uninformed, that are using illegal methods of fishing on the creek. Keith's Sticky Topic contains some good posts and a link to report suspicious activity. You might also call Cal-TIP toll-free: 1-88FG-CALTIP (888-334-2258).
Putah Creek Trout also encourages members of this Forum to bring possible violations to the attention of law enforcement agencies, especially DFG. Without reports, its fair to assume that they will assume there isn't a problem on the creek.
I use to spinn fish as a kid .Now I have a box full of good lures.I remove the tripple hook and put on a single hook..I put a few in my fly box this time a year.If I come a cross a guy chucking bait or using a lure with mutiple hooks I give them a free lure with the correct setup...I have found that most people are not fully aware of the regs.Just something I do to help educate others with out looking like a know it all jerk....If you got some old trout lures and your never going to use them , give it a try... mx19
I'd guess most folks couldn't tell the difference between the sound of a rifle, pistol or shotgun. Not suggesting , just saying.
Assuming a single person shooting. Several shots in a row rules out a shotgun as you are limited to 3 shells in the gun while hunting. Shotguns do have a distinctive sound to them.
Most rifles (centerfire anyway) are bolt action so rapid multiple shots aren't the norm.
Yes there are critters in season right now and yes I've heard shots before. Nothing to report unless it was taking place right at the creek on the highway side.

I think that is a really creative way getting the message out to those that may be simply in the dark as far as the regs go. Not that ignorance is an excuse,( certainly not if the offender is confronted by a game warden), but I think that if the offender's heart is in the right place, they will appreciate your input and realize that you're trying to help them, the fishery etc., and understand where you're coming from. You may also encounter one of the idiots that know damn well what they're doing and then it's anybody's guess what kind of reaction you'll get. Still , it's worth the effort to help decrease the amount of illegal fishing and poaching that plague any popular fishery. You know, I've got a couple of old mepps spinners i'll toss in my chest pack and give it a shot. If all goes well, I'll have educated someone. If it goes the other way, ....... I'll drown the bastard! Tight lines, Viking
You guys always give me a good laugh!Steve you're right about the target shooting on the south side of the creek. The shooting should only be on the west side of access #5 that is our property and we occasionally do target practice about 500 yds from the creek,we never shoot any direction but into a dirt embankment away from the creek and rarely if ever rapid fire. What we do is totally safe and controlled. But people have many times been known to shoot (day and night) in and around the creek so be carefull.
where out there can i bring my rifle and do some practice shots to tune in my rifle.
