The magic fly

Fished the creek yesterday afternoon.  Saw the creek had dropped substantially, so I had to cross the creek, crawl over and through poison oak, grape vines and berry bushes to get to my spot.  Put on a soft hackle hares ear no luck.  Looked in the old fly box and pull out a Matt R special tied by Emerger.  Cliff said it works, but I hadn't caught any fish with it.  Threw it in and within three drifts fish on.  Indicator dropped like a rock.  Ten fish later the fly was still working.  Used it for two hours and it outfished everything.  The creek was dropping before my very eyes and the fish were still biting.  The fly looks like a buggy PMD mayfly.  By the end of the day the fly had a nub for a tail, and most of the dubbing was gone.  I haven't met Matt, but he has good designs.

I checked a few areas and didn't see any stranded fish.  I also noticed that the SCWA trucks were checking the creek as well.  250cfs is a big drop, but you need the magic fly to catch the fish.

You are right Sean there are only a few places on the creek for low flows. This one is pretty hidden right now. I marked the spot last night in the dirt. If you guys find it, you will find some fish. You will need the magic fly though. I am headed out for the steelhead now. The creek is yours until the flows come back up. Thanks for that fly pattern Matt I am putting it up on the Wall of Fame.

shon I was just messin with you the other day and still you are butt hurt>?And for you to assume that I am a "rookie" under the assumption that I am new to the site and haven't posted many. As a matter of fact Shon, I have been fly fishing any tying for 15 yrs now.And it apperrs that you are closer to a senior citizen than a senior member. So now you can sit back in your seat a little more humbled than you were befor your last post. Hope to see you on the water biggrin

I will most likely go to the Lower Yuba. If I head out to the LY, rip a few Putah lips for me!
