well they say 3s company, but i think its more like 4. wyteurp and myself met up early on the river, started at a good fall spot with a big 0 off the bat. figured we fish the lower section with the flows down while we wait for jt to show up. we then moved up stream of this hole to fish a nice pool. i got the right side and marty got the left. well he tried to get the left. hey marty did you happen to break out yet. lets just say the trails are not bushwacked yet. he had a hard time. while he was trying to get there i was already fishing it, and withing 5 or 6 casts i got a nice 14"er to hand. fisty lil guy. a few cast later i got a hit on the swing but as soon as i set the hook i hit a tree with the rod. it was dejavue all over again.
more than likely most of you do not know this but i have 3 broken rods at home. 1 baitcaster and 2 fly rods. the baitcaster was the first to go, by UPS, somehow the tape came off of the tubing and it broke the tip, and the top of the bottom section was cracked. so i filled a claim for that one. my 7wt redington redfly2 is the second rod. UPS again, mind you i had them shipped in the heavy duty cardboard rod casings and it was doubled up, a large one on the outside and a smaller one inside of that. well when that shippment came in the tubing was bent like a crate landed on it. unrapped it started pulling out the rods and the handle on my 7wt just dropped off. it was completely broken off. SH-T. i was pissed. there goes my steelhead and salmon rod for the trinity and american and maybe even the yuba. so the next day took it to ups. i tell you what they take care of their people. my first shippment had the insurance on it, but the one coming back my stepmom forgot to put it on. so the manager said that my 7wt broke the first shipment and my baitcaster the second. so i can get the full amount for both rods. 220 for the redington, which that is including the shipping that they pay for, and 100 for my baitcasting rod. so i made out. just have to wait on the redington. well thats not all, the st croix is in the mail as well. yup that broke too. was going down the 4x4 trail to hit the east carson, and i put the rods inside the cab, tips first and the reels sitting in the bed. well all of a sudden, SNAP. i look back and there is a tree next to the back window. looks like the trail decided to move the 5wt out the window and it hit a tree and the tree won. man 3 rods in 4 weeks, thats just my luck. sucky luck. oh well.
so having to use the 6wt at putah, not liking that because of its stiffness, i got over it though right way after landing a few nice fish form about 12-15"s. at this time we are fish 3 jt, myself and wyeturp. then all of a sudden who shows up BLACK CLOUD. so we are fishing this run 4 deep. it was great. we all hooked into fish, and most of them came off. soon after black cloud showed up, wyeturp and to leave, he even said watch it will get good now, just like the amercian that day. and boy did it ever. i was using a ugly shinny fly i have no idea what it was with a brassy dropper and i was hammering them. i hooked some fish that just kicked my ars, and broke me off, you think i would learn a lesson to move up from 6x to 5x after breaking off a few flys with my 6wt but i didnt. i keep on seeing a very very light color fish flashing in front of me. me and jt just got done talking about a big brown 30+"s that sits in this whole this time of yr, and i hooked this beast, well over 30"s, and well that was the end of it. it shot down stream so fast i couldnt do a damn thing. jts jaw dropped, mine did to. i am 100% sure it was a huge brown. all the fish rolling in that hole had dark bodies, not a single light color bow was in there, man that fish was BAD. broke my 6x off. go figure, wish i was having my 5x on at that time, or even my 5wt rod. well what you gonna do. so after all said and done i think between me and jt we landed about 30 fish, hooked atleast double that, and several of those landed fish where some beauties.
hope you enjoy brian

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
Nice report, I wanted to make it up there but just couldn't get away from work. If theres browns in there now is about the time to see em ! Putah is fishing very nicely now, I went small this weekend and did well, 6 and 7x tippet, #20 to 24 midges and midge emergers. most fish came very close to the bank, especially a steep bank. Now I wait for the poison oak outbreak !
Brian, I will never doubt your fishing ability. You seem to be catching a lot of fish. But, dude, you need to get those waders dirty, or everyone will accuse you of being a poser! Just kidding. Sorry to read about the rods. Good job on the 30+ fish you and the guys hooked up with.
Ya, nice job on the pix ... your cut looked like it could 'a' made the "hunks of putah creek" calendar for '09, but it definately gave up too much of the farm. It had that whole "fighting a monster, with a scenic back drop" thing goin on.
You got it quick, maybe you should be talking to the CIA not the DFG!
I'll be on the water a lot the last two weeks of this month. Do you get out much other than Wednesday's? I'd like to catch up with you again.
Cheers, nice fish!
Ed.
