Im a local here in Fresno.  It one of my favorite rivers.  I stated fly fishing on this river here.  In oct fishing will pick up when water temps get goods.  Few place that i would recommend fishing:  Any where you can access, or start from the dam, work your way down to Choinumini park, in back of Doyal's store, Winton park, then the C&R area which starts below wintonpark.  C&R starts where the alta weir is goes all the way to HWY 180.  Another good spot is right behinde Avocado Lake, its also C&R.  Hopefully this will give you an idea where to fish.
