Summer was great fishing for me. I was able to get several new fly fishers into their first fish on the fly, a very cool experience.

School has started and I'm taking 18 units. I am looking forward to a great Isonychia hatch on the Pit and North Fork Feather River. I was able to convince a few trout to eat my #10 imitation this last week. The Upper Sac and Pit will also have a October caddis in about 5-6 weeks. Hopefully one of these days Deer Creek will be opened up again for us to fish...

Let me know if you need a fishing report for up here.

Take care everybody and have a great time on the Truckee! Catch the big ones!

Can't wait for spring and my favorite bugs of all, the Stoneflies  smile

thats great that you had an awsome yr of fishing and all your clients are happy. i didnt know that you were a guide. learn something new everyday. but you posting about your guide service on bonos website is disrespectful. if you want to advertise about your guide service do it else where, like your myspace page or even craigslist. dont mean to be rude, its just my opinion.

I don't compete with Bono - he guides Putah Creek.

I'm sure if there was a problem he would say something.

DTP,

How can you say that you don't guide Putah Creek, when your MySpace page states that you do ?????????????

You forget that this is Bono's web site. That he maintains this web site to promote his business. His Fly Fishing Guide Service is his livelihood and how he supports his family.

I think that members of this board need to support Bono in return for his offering us this wonderful discussion board and all the expert advice that he offers us all for free.

I hired him a couple of times when I first began fishing Putah and his advice and guidance was worth it's weight in gold.  He taught me more on the creek in a couple days than I could have learned by myself in a season or two.  His guide rates are extremely reasonable and he is extremely patient with his clients.

He offers 1/2 day and full day trips, as well as fly casting lessons. He also offers his own hand tied flies for sale on his website at a very reasonable price.

Next time someone you know is looking to learn about fly fishing or about Putah Creek let's recommend Bono first.  And we all need to thank Bono for allowing us to be part of this Putah Creek Community. I know that lot's of friendships have been formed on this board and this makes Putah Creek just that much more special.

Thanks Bono !!!!!!!!

Keith

Well, I apparently need to explain things more...I don't want mislead readers

I haven't guided Putah this year or in the past years...In fact I turned down multiple opportunities to guide it this summer. Believe it or not, I told them to go with Greg Bonovich!!!

My main rivers I fish and guide on are the Pit River and North Fork Feather River. I grew up fishing the Truckee, Little Truckee, and surrounding tribs, but don't guide there.

When people ask me for advice on Putah Creek or a guide , the very first thing that comes out of my mouth is the name Greg Bonovich. Check Bono's website and spend a day on the water with him is what I recommend to Putah trainees. Over 20 years of experience probably makes Greg's knowledge one of the best, if not the best, in California.

I do like fishing Putah in the winter. Currently I am not booking trips to Putah Creek. I have a section on Putah in the blog area on myspace, mainly because people like to read about a place that we all share and enjoy. If things change, and I do start guiding Putah, I will make sure not to make light of it on here.

The main reason of my original post was just to say we are coming down to some great time for fishing in California, and if you don't feel comfortable heading out to a new body of water, hire a guide. Most people posting on here wouldn't say Putah is a "new" body of water for them.....I thought some of you would want to see some pictures of fish caught from other places beside Putah Creek, because I'm pretty sure I've shared some photos from Putah on here already.

I'm just a dude that likes fly fishing. Thanks for checking out my page, though! Hope this helps the confused.

well if you dont guide putah or havent in a while then why does your myspace page state something different. it doesnt state to contact greg bonovich, it says to contact you. very misleading if you ask me.

here is what it states via your myspace page.

"Guiding on Putah Creek will be a short window of prime fishing for big rainbows from mid december to mid January. Additonal trips may be available in the future."

Contact me if you are interested in fishing Putah Creek this winter. With a mild winter weather, large fish, and short drive from the Bay Area or Sacramento Area, this place will reward those with perfect presenations and proper fly patterns."

so again why would you say that you dont guide it, when you state on your website to contact you if you are interested in fishing putah creek.

Brian,

I got a near identical PM from Keith...

If I stated the sky was red on myspace, would you and Shon believe me??? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Don't believe everything you see on the internet...or TV for that matter.

I'm not sure if you're upset because I didn't accept your friend request or what...If you feel inclined check it again and see what it says....and quite to the contrary, it actually does say contact Greg Bonovich! I decided to write that in today. But be assured that no one has contacted me about fishing Putah.

I'll need to update it more often, as I didn't realize how many of you look at it!

That's not even close to what I said. Try re-reading, mx19.

"One other thing that really helps anglers connect to the Putah fish is that they spawn mid-winter like a steelhead. Prime spawning season is from December thru January, and oftentimes February. This means the big fish are easier to spot and cast to as they will hold in shallower, faster water during pre-spawn and some during post-spawn."

If you fish for steelhead, salmon, kokes in a stream, or Putah rainbows in the winter months they are pre-spawn, spawning, or post-spawn. Whether you choose to fish on or over the redds is an individual choice. Personally, I don't.

Never did I mention fishing for spawning trout, AKA on the redds. I would never write that.

well i am sorry that you got an identical pm from keith. i just copied what you had on your myspace thats all. i do notice that it is different now. which you must have changed sometime today, which you stated yourself, by adding gregs name to your page today.

as far as believing what someone says no. i have to see it to believe it, which is what i am talking about, you wrote what i posted, you didnt say it, you wrote it, thats the difference. would you believe the president if he says that he is going to raise the minimum hourly rate, NO, but once you see that bill in writing you will right. YES.

as far as requesting you as a friend, i was trying to be the better man, forget about what happened in the past between you and me and turn over a new leaf and try something new instead of fighting like little kids, and maybe get to know you on a difference basis than just putah, which all of us on this website know that our relationship on the website hasnt been cherries and cream. so i was just trying to be nice, maybe hook up with you and go fishing. everyone comes off differently when it comes to typing and how one reads what they post, so by adding you i was hoping to get to know you better. but by you bringing that up means nothing at this point in time. whether you didnt or did, why even bring that up. OH NO YOU DIDNT ADD ME. BOOOO HOOOO cry.gif
trust me you didnt hurt any of my feelings, to be honest i forgot.

anyways this is about any of that, its about the guide situation

Its cool, Brian, I just like giving you a hard time. But please, will you stop the crying? J/K!!! biggrin.gifhandshake.gif

No one seem to notice this was posted under "Other Rivers & Streams"...not "Putah Creek Fly Fishing" If I DID guide Putah, it would be more appropriate to put this thread there. But I don't so its here instead.

This summer has been great and I too have put a few pupils on their first fish using fly gear! Its absolutly such a gratifying experience, occasionally i think my disciple enjoys the catch as much as I.  But not to detract we are on the cusp of FALL FISHING!

This year i hope to fish ... the caddis hatch on the upper sac!
Hey Dtp i might be hittin you up for a "free" report and good luck in school! Becareful with those ambitions, they may carry you away to something awful like a full time job!(ha ha) Good for you!

I understand that some of this sites readers (responders) can be very sensitive(to a flaw). As childish as some of these comments "seem"(b.c.), i doubt they result from some complex but rather from something we all share. A Passion for fishing. Lets start a new thread about fishing for "Fall fishing" sorry for detracting

P.S. I cant find any ads on this site for dtp's fly service. Lets try not to let our ... get in a bunch!  confuse.gif

His ad is in the "shameless promotion" section. I agree we should all look forward to the fall fishing, this thread should have been under poaching on Putah.

Damn, I've missed out. Sounds like it was a fun summer on the message boards. All this fighting is reminding me of the Brian vs Packrat days. I do think DTP is trying to cover up after being caught.
