Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
I have fished there since I was a kid. I know a guide that does float trips down there. Watch out for the douchebag who leases property for 7 miles below the Oxbow put in. Water levels rise in the middle of the day last time I was there, we had to swim back to the car. Pretty nutty!

The water below Oxbow is some of the best water on the Middle Fork American! I was lucky enough to fish with a guy who had access to that private property, it was amazing down in there.
so private property meaning you have to walk in above the property and walk in the water below the high water mark to fish it. or is it a private property fishing area. if someone knows the middle fork and would like to go please let me know, i have been hearing great things about it lately, and i would like to get up there sometime soon.

Private property not private water but the problem is that area is a canyon and there is no way to access it other than through this property.
I've mentioned it before but the MFA (middle fork american) can be really good above Oxbow. Park at the Ralston picnic area and hike upstream. I have yet to run into anyone else fishing up there in all the times I've been there. Now bears, seen lots of them. That's one of the few areas that I will pack a gun. Seen a mountain lion once too.
only problem dont have a pistol but i got a remington semi auto 7600 30-06. havent shoot it yet. want to though. it was a gift from my mother. sweet looking gun. i need to get out and hunt, just dont know the process or even where.
anyways, maybe ill give the middle fork a try next week. i know me and emerger will be going somewhere, maybe we will hit that up.
how do i go about gettin there. and what are the hot flys up there, besides stoneflys.

Always have parachute adams with you up there. From HWY 80 exit at Foresthill and go through the town of Foresthill. Turn right on Mosquito Ridge Road and park at the Ralston Picnic area, it's right where the MFA flows into Oxbow. Bushwhack your way upstream. It's small water but there are surprisingly large fish in there.
hey emerger if you read this i think we should go there.
hey packrat do we need 4x4 to get there. or will a car be ok.

I have fished above and below the Bridge that crosses the river slightly upstream from Oxbow. Good water. can be hotter than hell and look out for rattlers. There are quite a few miners up there as well. Looks like crackhead alley. It's where I had one miner's dog attack me last year. Thank God I had a wading staff with me. A couple of smacks from my staff and the dog took off.
Brian, private property is a really big issue out there. The water is strong and deep in many place and that guy has has patrol becuae he doesn't want people fishing. His land is part of s special fly fishing club called Granite Bay Financial Services (GBFS). He has kicked me out, and others have been cited and arrested for trespassing. I saw him at a shop one day and he tried to BS with me and i told him straight up I knew who he was and what he does. He apologized and offered to take me, but screw it, there's thousands of miles of great trout water in CA! Just be careful, that's all. And watch the flows!!!
They like bird's nests and hare's ears. I'd go un a 16 or 18 behind a bigger point fly. It you want a big brown streamers are pretty much your only option...
Good luck! The entire Upper American Drainage is often underated.
I feel for ya if your gonna ride home with Brian after an icy hot application, That stuff stunk up the tent at the middle stan You know I'm just messin with ya bro !
i dont know what was worse my icy hot or your ass. hahaha
