Steelhead fly swap

I'm a little hesitant to even bring this subject up because it took us awhile to get it together and finished last time,  but.......let's do another fly swap.  With all the talk of the upcoming season it got me thinking.  I was hanging out in the green room mixing up a batch of caddis when I looked over and saw a bag of chain eyes and started thinking about my steelie box.  So if we get 12 guys to tie 13 flies we can do this.  It also gives some other people the chance to get on who didn't last time like BC who sounds like is doing some tying.  Right on Brian!  Let me know what you think.  I will moderate this time and give Packrat a break.  Thanks for hooking it up last time Rich.

Count me in too. How does an alaskabou sound for you guys? Give me an idea of the colors you might want to see, if, of course, an alaskabou will work.

Brian I am looking forward to seeing your tie!

Alright, alright here we go. I will let you guys decide on your bugs then I'll pick mine so it's not the same. Keep them coming.  Sounds like a great tie WT.  Whatever color will work. Blue/black or pink orange.

maybe even a purple/black or a salmon egg/black. but ya that would be a great fly. have you ever put a trailer hook on them. that would be an idea on that fly. if you look at the fly tying section and find chuck the ducks ar flies, top of second page, you will see my pupah and also his green meany as i call it. great streamer fly and it had a stinger hook and worked well.

here is a link for those that dont know about the alaskabou. cuz i sure didnt.
http://www.alagnaklodge.com/flies/alaskabou.htm

sweet looking fly cant wait to see it wt.

what size would you guys prefer for my pupah. 12 or 14. i put mine on a 12 before.

Brian I would be more than willing to put a trailer fly behind the fly if that's what others wanted. I have never tied a trailer hook, but it is something I am very interested in learning how to do. I have the general idea of how to do it, but if anyone knows of a link that explains it better, please let me know.

I'm in! I'd like to tie up some popsicles for everyone but only if that wouldn't be too similar to what WT is already tying.

I'll most likely tie some sort of nymph.  They're definitely my most consistent fish-catchers.  No, dtp916, I'm not going to tie a micromay--maybe a macromay.

I'll jump in on this one. buggers, nymphs or eggs. what do i tie. an egg would be an easy way to go. nymphs are gonna be needed on the trinity in a few months. but there aint nothing like getting hammered on the swing with a bugger on the end of the line.????

Okay so far we have a caddis pupa, alaskabou, popsicle, some sort of nymph and Matt can give us some of his buggers or nymphs.  I'm still waiting to see what everyone else ties before picking.  We're halfway there and I still haven't heard from some of the others like Packrat, Otter or Nic.  Keep em coming guys.

well i am still new to tying and well i really aint that good yet. my confidence is not up there with some of you. but with my pupah is one that i am confident that i can make. if we dont have enough i can sure hell try on making something else. maybe me and jt can get together and help me with making the second fly.

i guess lets just see where it goes

I thought about that already, so funny.  I can tie two sets also, it's just nice to be able to have 12 flies from 12 tiers.  We got close last time, BTW doesn't DTP tie?  Come on gangsters paradise let's tie.  biggrinbiggrin.  I thought about pulling some guys in from the Kiene's website if we were short but I want to wait awhile as a last ditch effort to fill the 12 spots.  I want everyone on this site to have first shot.

Ok here we go again, fly swap time!!!  I'm going with an october caddis.  Works on the trinity, mc cloud and the upper sac.  No steelhead on the upper sac or mcloud, but tons of october caddis.

I dont tie flys...I have no desire to do so...I do have a few good friends that tie flys for me.Many of these flys are my creation.I have a few boxes full of brand new hand tied steelhead flys..a lot of them are for local waters like the feather and the trinity..Mabe I should donate My jumbo micro may and force JT to bust out something new...It even works killer on putah and other trout waters...I have trinity stones, triple tone rubber legs ,pretty in pink SansWon and a whole bunch more ...
