Silver Lake trip

We had a good day wednesday which started as a float day at Silver Lake. Brian fished there last week with JT using drys. We got on the water early, fished hard and did not see one rise or any fish . On top of that , my float tube was leaking on one side. That called for a change of plans so we headed up toward the carson stopping to fish Caples and woods lake . Saw a lot of rises at Caples but not close enought to drop a fly. At Woods lake , Brian took the poontoon out while I fished the creek and the inlet. I was surprised to catch brookies instead of rainbows. The next stop was where I caught some cutthroats about a month ago on a tiny creek. It was almost completly dry with small pools and no fish. Back on the highway we fish the canyon of the w. Carson and we both caught some small browns, this was a day we were going to have to work for these fish. When we were at Caples, we checked the lake outlet and the release of water seemed to be a little higher than normal, so we figured we hit the Silver Fork on the way home to see what it was like. But first I had another trib to the American that had some nice pocket water that I had never fished. Brian headed up stream while I headed down. Every pocket held fish most were small but Brian caught two about 15". Needless to say we never made it to the Silver Fork.

Hey Brian... you guys never did get to the Silver Fork to see if it is blown out by the release of water at Caples Lake? Black Cloud did mention that he thought the water was flowing out pretty good. Just wondering how bad it is since we got that report a few days ago?

You guys sounded like you had a great trip. Heading to the NF of the Yuba this weekend. Will post a report when we return.

Tight lines....

actually silver fork coming out of silver is slow, but i have a feeling when you get down silver fork where caples creek comes it its probably flow pretty good. but i can think of a few spots below the confluence of the 2 that would be great fishing. i might just swing up there soon after the fish get used to the higher flows and fish caples creek. who knows.

good luck up there ifish.
