I fished Silver Lake, the Silver Fork American River, and Squaw Creek with Brian Clemens on the 16th of July. The fishing was decent. We caught nothing but browns in the lake and the river and nothing but brookies in the creek. We saw a few big fish, but the biggest fish landed was about 12". All of my fish out of the Silver Fork came on a #10 stonefly nymph. All of my fish in the lake were on streamers. In Squaw Creek, I caight all of my fish on a #16 Sloan's paralyzer.

yup that was a great day. most of my fish were on drys. my first brown came on a nice size 16 B.C. CADDIS (dry) that i tied up the night before. what a great feeling. the browns in the lake went nuts for this caddis. it was great. caught a few in silver creek on drys. then caught a few brookies on a jt webwing or something like that. it was a sweet day, and will be doing it again on weds. but this time gettin there way before sunrise.
thanks jt for a great day. cant wait to hit the carson up with you.

We went a couple of miles downstream. There weren't as many fish as there have been in the past, so we kept going until we consistently found fish. We did the same thing on Squaw Creek. There used to be tons of brookies in there, but we had to hike pretty far upstream until we found fish. Eventually, the mosquitoes got really bad and we had to get out of there.

SSounds like a good one guys. I do question if the silver fork is capable of growing fish over about the 14 inch mark as the biomass just dosen't seem to be very good on that river. But still fun fishing there. I saw absolutly no hatches in the 2 days i was there last weekend. Just an occasional caddis.
Those are bueaty's. I looked for bugs for awhile and it just didn't seem like there was much there to support fish like that in the section i fished. Maybe other areas are different.
hey jt how does a float tube day sound on silver lake and caples lake

Shaun, There are bigger fish in there. We saw a couple bruisers on the bottom of one of the deep pools. About 10 years ago I landed a 20" brown out there, but the fishing used to be much better on the Silver Fork. The numbers and size of fish have decreased dramatically in the last 10 years.
Brian, If I can only find the time. I just thought of another spot I want to hit soon as well.
