I hit Putah again this weekend. It was a great day overall, especially because I introduced a good friend to fly-fishing and he caught (or at least hooked) a bunch of fish! We had the most action on micromays in sizes 16, 18, and 20, though we also got some good action on callibaetis emergers. Overall, we hooked well over 20 fish and landed about half of them. My biggest fish to hand was a fat, 21" native rainbow that ripped into my backing and almost broke me off on three different snags before I got her under control and brought her to hand. I also landed another fat native hen that probably went close to 18". I'm always so impressed by how healthy and strong the wild trout in Putah usually are. Overall, the flows were great for accessing prime water, there were plentiful hatches, the fish were willing, and the cool water does a body good in this heat. That's it for now.
way to go James, Hooking 20 fish on putah is a great day of fishing. Although I wouldn't say 650 cfs flows opens up much water for wading. Wait till below 300, then the good spots will start to open up for fishing.
nice post bro. its always a great day when you can hook 20 fish, and land a few over th 16" mark. nice job.
hey shawn the great spots open up below 300. man i cant wait till that happens. i just will have to figure out whether i want to hit putah up or the AR for steelhead. it will be a tough one to decide one. i know this though. ill be making some streamers and spey flys for steelhead this yr. man i cant wait.

I was fortunate to spend some time in that cool water as well yesterday I got abused by my fish yesterday they were a little fiesty to say the least but I still love losing those fights to big bows though. It just cracks me up how hard they hit and how hard they fight.
Brian please dont tell me your gonna be a spey head
nope not gonna get a spey rod YET. HAHAHA just want to make some streamers and spey flys for the up and coming steelhead season.
