Fished the silver fork pretty hard the past 2 days. fishing was good for small trout, about 5 to 12 inchers. I didnt even attempt to keep track of how many fish were caught, But it was alot. All rainbows, except for 2 browns, a 6" and a 12", actually the first browns I have caught there. Decided to fish a different peice of river this time and it defenitly payed off. All dry fly action, By far the best fly was a yellow humpy with brown hackle and big bushy white wings, With a soft hackle dropper in the surface as a dropper. Stimulators worked well also. Attractors were the ticket as they did not seem interested in the more "traditional drys". The flow is still ok but it is going to be getting pretty low pretty quickly now I think. The snakes are out in force, encountered 3 kings, and one damn rattlesnake.
In picture number 2 look very closely and you might be able to see a very large king snake swimming along the bottom of the river.
thanks for the info bro. me and jt will be up there fishing in full force on weds, and ill be tying some dries for the trip as well. can wait to catch my first brown on my first hand tied dry fly.
again thanks for the pics and the post.

What part of the silver fork are you guys going to fish ? I fished about 2 or 3 miles up from the first campground. Alot of good water, If you can get down into some of those gorges were access is really hard I bet theres some good stuff . Don't forget the yellow humpy's.
i have no idea what part we are fishing. but i do know this. were we are going we got some major hiking infront of us before we start fishing.

I still haven't hiked up the Silver Fork, but I have hiked down a ways starting at Silver Lake. That can be pretty good and they seem to be mostly browns. Plus I have never seen a rattlesnake up there!
Hey shon42073... did you camp at any of the two campgrounds? I was up there in June and they were relatively empty. How were the crowds when you were there? Thinking of heading up over the coming weekend.
Did you get a chance to fish along Caples Creek Trail up toward the confluence of Caples Creek?
ifish, I did stay at the silver fork campground, I arrived around 8 a.m saturday morning and there were only 2 campsites left and they were not very good ones, I drove throught the first campground, China flat I think, And there was only 1 site availbale and it was not a very nice site at all. If you do have any problem getting a site there are many places for dispersed camping along silver fork road, I think these are actually better then the campgrounds, But I do beleive there are campfire and bbq restrictions, I think its gas stoves only when not in a campground. I have fished up the caples trail twice in the past and never really had much action. I enjoyed fishing some spots btween the campgrounds much more, Thats just my personal feeling, the water is much skinnier up the caples trail, more pocket water, Its a bit larger with nice pools down below. I do beleive getting down into the gorges is the key to that river. It's tough but it can be done if your not in to bad a shape. Its a pretty "easy" river to fish. Good luck out there, let us know how you do. Oh and the water is getting a bit warm, wet wading defenitly. One other thing, The campgrounds run 16 bucks a night and tend to have alot of people that are there to party.
I was at Sand Bar Flat on MF Stan two weekends ago, even though the camp ground is small and down a 10 mile rough dirt road it still felt like going to a Raiders tailgate party up until about 11:00 Saturday night. Pretty obnoxious, not what I wanted to experience after the long drive out there, dispersed camping is looking a whole lot better to me now.
Was the same way at silver fork last weekend windknots. I've made a few trips down there in the fall and had the entire campground to myself one time, and only one other person the second time. I've gotten used to camping around little disrespectful punks.
