I've been up in South Lake Tahoe quite a bit the last few months. My folks live up there so it makes it easier to make the trip with skyrocketing gas prices. I have mostly been hanging out with family, bike riding, and hiking, but I have been able to squeeze in some fishing (the girlfriend kinda makes that tough). I don't know how you old timers with wives and kids make any time.
Back to the fishing. I didn't really get to pound any one area but I tried to spread it out a bit. I hit up the E. & W. Carson, Wolf Creek, the Silver Fork (up top), and some other streams I like and hiked to quite a few of my favorite lakes. The streams and rivers are really starting to fish pretty well. I wish I could hit up the E. Carson over these next couple weeks because I really think the fish are starting to get comfortable again with some steadier flows. By the way...watch out for the cattle out there right now. I just about had to take a dip to get out of the way of a big bull the other weekend.
The fishing was good just about everywhere. I caught rainbows, some browns, cuts and brooks. I attached a couple of the pics I took. Darn if only I could have gotten a golden and mack...would have hit for the trout cycle (I'm sure there is some name for it..but I don't know).
me and brian hit up the east carson might want to get out early.... later in the day was pretty slow go for size 16 humpy for a dry or a yellow pmd made a killing with those two early....also had a run in with a few cows....
Thanks JT. About three years ago, before I had started fly fishing, I was hiking up in Tahoe and ran into this little lake (more like a big pond) and decided to fish it a bit. It was about 90% iced over and had about 10' of open water along the shore. I threw in the lewer and first cast, "crap", I thought I snagged up. But no, ended up catching a beefy brookie and then a couple more. I go back twice a year (early spring and late fall) and give it a try. There is a really good population of big brookies that make the one in the pic look small. It's pretty suprising since brookies tend to overpopulate and stunt.
