I'm boiling in the heat right now and am looking to get out of the valley for at least one day this weekend. I have spent the past three weekends up in Tahoe hanging out with friends and family, and fishing when I could slip away, but I am looking for somewhere new this weekend. Can anyone help me out with some suggestions?...I am looking for something within about 2 hours of Davis. I was thinking of Nelson Creek, but have never been up that way. I'm always interested in the Truckee, but would like to save an entire weekend for that trip. Please help!
time is limited on the truckee water was warming up to 62 by mid day, still can catch some fish during the day but not as easy as early and late in the day. I still say truckee especially if ya want to cool down. or try the north fork of the yuba near the town of washington, its been a long time since i've fished there used to do real good. havent heard a report out of that area in a long time, might just have to make one of my own here soon.
Actually, Washington is on the South Fork of the Yuba. I've fished the South Fork off of Bowman Road, there are trout up that area but I think it's a better swimming hole. No kidding, last time I went I left the rods at home and just enjoyed the swimming holes, that's how good it is for swimming on a hot summer day.
Most of the water is siphoned off for irrigation, but I've been meaning to try that area of the South Fork Yuba from Washington all the way down to 49. I don't think I'd go out of my way to make it a destination though unless I had some other reason to go (and there's lots of good reasons, biking, hiking, swimming, hanging out around Nevada City...).
Very true....I think I need to figure out more options. Those fires are going to make it tough for the next few weekends at least, and then who knows about the rest of summer. This is going to be a bad summer....reminds me of last year when we started out so early with the Tahoe fire.
