So, one other reason I love Putah is the wild blackberries. Man are they good right now. As I got to the creek, flygirl was hiking out with a giant ziploc full of them. I was quite jealous!
anyway, we chatted for a while and agreed to meet up for some evening fishing sometime soon.
Headed down and had the creek to myself all evening. Not that it did me much good... like MX and JT, I couldn't really find the fish. I was having no luck at all after an hour, so I tied on a 3rd fly, this time a bushy hairs ear-ish type fly in a dun color and on the first cast I landed a feisty 12 inch native.
Hooked up with 4 more fish in the next couple hours with only 1 to hand and at dark, my usual luck with dry flies was no there. Course, I didn't see a single caddis, which is odd this time of year.
They just don't seem to be around yet. Maybe they're late. Plenty of mayflies though (baetis).
Still, it was a gorgeous evening, and the blackberries really are awesome right now.
its never a bad day when you get into some wild blackberries, i might have to try a few myself tomorrow. yup finally gettin out on putah again, so hopefully the fish are hungry for what i have on the dinner plate for them.
if anyone is out there and see a big lifted white jeep, dont be shy come down and say hi. maybe if neither of us are having any luck we can put our brains together and figure something out. or just go and eat some blackberries. hahaha
