OK - it's offcial. I've caught multiple small natives two trips in a row. Got one 9 inch feisty little sucker tightlining a deep pool. He took an orange caddis pupa. That was the only take I had on a nymph in a few hours of nymphing. Can't believe how slow the fishing's been on nymphs in traditional spots.
Fished olive buggers for an hour, got 1 12 in planter.
Then the little yellow sally hatch started (around 7:30). By 8:00 (just a dusk), there were more stone flies in the air than I may have ever seen, on any river, even in the height of a golden stone or salmon fly hatch on the bigger western rivers. There was simply an UNBELIEVABLE number of little yellow stones in the air. They were everywhere. It was crazy. What was crazier was that despite the fact that these stone flies have been hatching for weeks, the fish aren't on them, at all. NO fish slashing the surface, no jumps, no splashes... just dead.
I did raise a few on a tan caddis after the stones stopped hatching. Got about a 13-14 inch bow right at dark, and a little six incher. Did see quite a few little guys splashing around at the very end of the night - but man is it tough right now.
