FISHED THIS PAST SATURDAY NEAR OLD STATION WITH MY WIFE. WE JUST BOUGHT A TENT TRAILER AND IT WAS OUR MAIDEN VOYAGE.
LANDED A FEW SMALL HARD-FIGHTING 6" BROWNS AND BOWS ON AN ADAMS AND BROWN HACKLE PEA****. MY WIFE ISN'T INTO FLYFISHING SO I PUT AWAY THE ROD AND BUSTED OUT THE OLD ULTRALIGHT SPINNERS. SHE HOOKED ABOUT 7 SMALL TROUT AND I GOT ONE ABOUT 14" ON PAUTSKE'S. I FELT STRANGE USING BAIT SINCE I'VE BEEN SOLELY DEDICATED TO THE FLY FOR THE PAST 5-6 YEARS.
OTHERS WERE PULLING OUT LARGE PLANTER 5-7 LB BROOKS ON NIGHTCRAWLERS. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME FISHING THE HAT CREEK OPENER SINCE I STARTED UP THERE ABOUT 16 YEARS AGO. I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF PEOPLE AND MOST OF THEM WERE PRETTY RUDE...I'D WALK 5-10 FT TO HELP MY WIFE AND MY SPOT WAS TAKEN IN A FLASH.
