I am leaving to the resort at squaw valley tomorrow around 2 and I wanted to know if anybody know anything about the fly fishing up there. Any fly shops or tips i should know about. I know that the truckee is right there but does anybody know if there are any more rivers or creeks up there. all information will help.

Thanks

rob

Google Martis Lake, Truckee River, both within short drives. Some board members fished the Truckee late winter, so look for those posts.

Truckee River Outfitters is in the town of Truckee but they might not be open yet since they convert to a ski shop in the winter. Go to Mountain Hardware in Truckee, they know their stuff and have a pretty good fly fishing department.

Plan on fishing the Truckee or the Little Truckee. There's lots of other creeks in the area but they are still closed. Creeks flowing into Lake Tahoe are closed till July 1. As Packrat said Mountain Hardware will def. help you out. I just fished the Truckee last Saturday for a couple of afternoon hours. Got 2 grabs the first being a 14" whitefish the next a nice 18" rainbow. Fish the slow deep holes and only during the warmest part of the day, get down deep. The water temp was 44. Golden stone nymphs picked up the fish. I should be back up there this w/e and plan on hitting the little truckee.

if we can get it arranged we can see how much damage two putah creek regulars can put on the truckee or the little truckee.
