Lake Anza in Tilden Park

Has anyone tried fishing Lake Anza in Tilden Park in Berkeley?  Signs seems to say you can fish it, but I was wondering if anyone has, or has heard of people fishing it.

I haven't fished it but supposedly there are bass, bluegill, sunfish and channel catfish. It isn't stocked though.

Since I work in berkeley, i used to go up there at lunch or after work but that was about 3 years ago. Yes, there are bass in there, some nice ones to, Catfish, and various panfish. I have never noticed any no fishing signs. It would be a good place to try for a bass on the flyrod.

I would think you could float tube it since you can swim in it.

I am involved with East Bay Regional Parks District / Public Safety. I am very familiar with Lake Anza / Tilden. Your definitely allowed to fish there, just dont fish in the designated swim area at the beach, the rest of the lake is pretty much open.. I have seen small panfish and bass close to the shore but, I believe their is a park ordinance stating that personal floatation devices are prohibited. Try to stay away from Lake Anza on nice weather weekends, the small lake really gets packed. Early morning on weekdays have much lighter crowds.

Hope this helps&Good Luck,
Worthy

I got out today, and did about as well as my last trip to putah... skunked. I only fished for about an hour and a half this afternoon. I was using wolly buggers and a hare's ear. i dont event know if they are good patterns for bass and pan fish... if anyone knows please tell me... I was also wondering by the amount of water activity if this might still be a little early for bass and pan fish? Anyways it was nice to practice casting on water... beats studying and working

For bass...I would use something like a clouser minnow. Something shiney and big. If the water temp is still in the low 50's then the bass and bluegill probably won't be up too shallow. This cold front that has come through this week is not helping the bass fishing. If the bass are spawing, use something that will drag the bottom and pull it right through there bed, but don't keep those fish that are spawning.

I scouted a local pond this past weekend, about the same size as anza and the bass are defenitly just starting to get on there spawning beds, So basically your really gonna have to piss them off and put something right in front of em. Hit it on a warm summer evening with poppers.

Try a Bass Cracker on a 15' sink tip.

Try a #12 damselfly nymph.  I couldn't tell you how many bass, crappie, and bluegill I've caught on that fly.
