well i finally have some time off from work, FINALLY, i have a week off from march 29th to april 6th, and looking very forward to it. anyways looking to get together with captain for a 2 day trip on the 29th and the 30th. so drive where ever the night before fish for 2 days and either come back the night of the 30th or the next morning.
ANYWAYS
just wondering what would be a great place to go considering the weather, time of yr, more than likely we will be wading, so the lower sac is out of the question. would like to know if there is any good spring run steelies on the trinity, klamath, smith, eel, any of those coastal streams, if there isnt, what other places would you suggest. upper sac, truckee, lower kings, upper kings, forks of the american or the yuba, upper putah creek, maybe some streams in the shasta area, driving wont be a real big issue since we will drive up the night before.
if you have any ideas that would be great. me and cappy will hit it hard as usual and wont give up without a fight. again if you got any ideas that would be great. i think we would both like to get into some spring run steelies, but some hard fighting resident trout would be cool as well.
thanks brian

Lower Sac should not be out of the question, it is very wadeable below 5000 cfs. It is running a little over 3000 cfs right now............but who knows what it will be when you go...
i have heard great things about the east walker lately. if i had a pontoon i would have no issue to hit the lower sac, only problem with wading is not a lot of access area to get to the good spots to fish.
thanks for the info dtp

do the coastal rivers sucH as the gualala, garcia, Navarro, Mad, Mattole, Eel, Or the south Eel have steelies in the spring ? Any of those rivers would be a cool trip. I've never fished or even seen any of them. East walker is to far for just 2 days, If I do that drive its gonna be like 4 or 5 days.
If you stay in Redding, you could fish the Lower Sac, Upper Sac, Pit River or Baum Lake....You have 2 days of fishing right?
Captain, you seem to have an infaturation with NC steelheading Most of the bigger rivers are best fished by drift or jet boat and quite a drive from you as well...The Gualala and Garcia are smaller I believe, and there is one other one that I can't remember the name of near Santa Cruz....??? But I'm unsure of their steelie runs that late.
I'll be up in Cassel on the 27th thru the 31st fishing Baum Lake and Possibly the Pit river. They raised the flows on the Pit until the 27th and should be fishable by then. Cassel is only 5 minutes from Baum and you guys are welcome to stop in or even hang out overnight if you want. The upper Sac is only about an hour away as well. Anyway, the offer is out there. Tug.
Something to keep in mind is that if the weather starts warming up at the end of the month, you'll be dealing with higher flows, cold and off color water. That's not to say there aren't places that will be fishable. If it was me I'd hit the Lower Sac for a bit in the morning on your way to the Pit. The Pit is a tail water and has consistent flows and shouldn't be much colder that it usually is. Don't think it would be off color either. There's also Manzanita Lake which I like better than Baum, wild fish and 90% of them are browns. You need tubes though.
The Truckee will probably be high, cold and dirty. Don't think you can get to the Little Truckee yet either as the road might not be open.
North Fork of the Feather up HWY 70 near Belden could be an option....

That would be the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz, but don't waste your time there... Go somewhere that's actually good fishing.
